I have been suffering from severe post nasal drip, copious mucus and coughing for a long time. I've seen several doctors and have had no relief. I'm scheduled for a CT scan of my sinuses later this month.
I know that certain foods seem to trigger the coughing and PND. Coffee, anything creamy, bread of any sort, cheese - even soy cheese, dairy, peanut butter, milk, even almond milk, pasta, and more.
There are a few foods that actually help. Grapefruit especially. And greens.
I was thinking of only eating Grapefruit and greens (any type of greens - kale, collard, spinach, mustard, cabbage, turnip etc - they all help) for a month to see if this provides any relief.
I do not eat meat normally and I'd never eat it.
What other foods should I add? I was thinking beets and sweet potatoes. White potatoes give me a problem occasionally.
I was also thinking of drinking a non mucus forming protein drink each day. Any with soy or milk are out. Any suggestions?
Also, what vitamins should I take? This is not about weight loss at all. It's about attempting to live with out this horrible disease and live life normally. My weight is low from this, but every food seems to set me off.
I would add 500 mg of Astragalus twice a day, maybe 3 times a day, to help boost your immune system. Since I began taking it in 2011, I have not been sick.
Could also try taking a spoonful of Organic, unfilted, apple cider vinegar, up to 3x a day, followed with a glass of water. And using the neti-pot 3x a day. The vinegar breaks down mucus a lot and wards off bacterial issues of the throat area (I use it to beat out any sore throat within 6 hours, and to reduce their re-occurrences). Netipot is self explanatory. Helps reduce nasal issues a lot, especially if you make a habit of it. Just make sure to use distilled water and not faucet water.
For cough, I use 'honey tea' - hot water with about tablespoon of honey (or more as preferred).
