What about PSE? Did you get any help with that? I believe azithromycin (spelled wrong a different way) is the generic for the Z-pack. You can look it up at Prices, Coupons and Information - GoodRx.

About 3 weeks ago I got a bad cold, started with a very sore throat, and then it turned into an Ear Infection, with terrible pressure and pain, which resulted in burst eardrums & drainage from both ears. I went to the Doctor and was prescribed antibiotics, Amoxicillin for 10 days, and ear drops for 5 days. The pain and drainage stopped within a few days after taking the antibiotics, and the clogged ears improved, but never went away. After I finished with the antibiotics the pressure in my ears started getting worse and the cough returned. I saw the Dr for a follow up a few days ago, but they looked in my nose, mouth, and ears and said there were no signs of infection & no redness, and that these were just residual effects from the illness, and perhaps, allergies. I was prescribed Nasonex, 2 sprays in each nostril once daily. So far there's not much improvement. My ears feel like they are full of pressure, like going down in an elevator. My hearing is still muffled and kinda distorted, like there's no high-end. And the coughing is still bad at night. Now I had something like this about 10 years ago, and took Sudafed (psuedephedrine) which took the pressure off my head. I tried the PE stuff before, but it didn't do a thing. I was hesitant on getting Sudafed since the govt passed some stupid law saying you have to sign for it and show ID, but I went over to the pharmacy counter and gave him the slip for the Store brand Generic Sudafed which is cheaper (they dont sell it in the aisles, you have to get a slip & take it to the pharm). He got it then asked for ID, so I gave him my Photo ID with my name on it from the State Metroplitan Transportation Authority (it's a reduced fare card for my disability, I cannot drive). He said he couldn't accept it, and said it must be a drivers license or passport which I do not have. He wouldnt accept my Medicaid card either. After arguing for a minute and getting absolutely nowhere, I just left in a huff. Absolutely complete BS. I was against the law when it was introduced years ago, but requiring a drivers license or passport, what if someone doesn't drive? He could care less, even though I told him I feel like an elephant is standing on my sinuses and there's balloons in my ear.
I dont know what to do next, I guess I'll have to ask a friend to get it for me? Go to the doctor again?
I've already tried Guaiffacin (Mucinex), Phenyephrine HCI (does nothing), and Benedryl (makes me tired & does nothing).
I have one last hope, I was at Walmart and got their generic Zyrtec and I'll try that. I need some relief..it literally feels like my head is gonna explode! And the last thing I need is some Commie saying I cant get the medicine I need to feel better!
Sudafed doesn't treat bacterial infections -- and it sounds like you've got bacterial infections. Or you could have fungal infections and sudafed and all that other over the counter crap will not treat fungal infections.

That's the problem with self-treatment with over the counters drugs, sometimes symptoms are alleviated but the problem is not taken care of.

You should get yourself to a good ENT specialist and find out what is going on.

OP, maybe it's time you seek a second opinion from a different dr.
