I agree that going to the Pulmonologist is a good idea. You are obviously having symptoms and your chest xray looks off to your dr.

From my experience, Pulmonologists are pretty good at what they do.

With your family history, it sure can't hurt to get checked out.

Xray sounds like hyperinflation, which goes along with obstructive lung issues, most common of which is asthma, also COPD for older smokers. Everyone who has asthma, didn't have it, until they developed it! You can develop it at any age. Infancy, childhood, adulthood, old age. My husband developed it at 35. My father, at 70. Anyone who gets pneumonia twice, in my book has asthma, until proven due to something else (which is rare). The pulmonologist will test you and diagnose you. There is fantastic treatment available for asthma nowadays, so don't worry.

It sure as hell ain't Marfan's.

Thanks. I'm really hoping it's just the after effects of the pneumonia. It was bad. I coughed so much and so hard that if felt like I was going to blow my lungs out of my chest. They are still soar right now but definitely better. He prescribed me more antibiotics and predisone(sp?).

I had some health issues last year that turned out to be nothing but a bad reaction to antibiotics. But in the process of determining the cause, I went thru what you're going thru now wondering what it could be. I Googled all my symptoms and everything I read pointed to a variety of diseases from IBS to colon cancer. It was a nightmare.

My point? Find a good pulmonary specialist who will see you in less than a month's time and stop immediately searching Google or City Data for self-diagnoses to your medical questions. It will only stress you out more. I promise you it isn't worth it.

All I know is, if you have it get it taken care of. My cousin has it, had surgery at 62, and is in great shape. His doctor told him that with Marfan's you can literally drop dead any time, no matter how healthy you are.

The only thing you can do is get to the specialists and whatever it is, get it treated. Many people who have marfans don't know they have it.

There are two possibilities - you don't have it and the specialists will be able to determine that, or you do have it and the earlier the treatment and followup, the better off you'll be -- it seems significant that your parents suffered from some chronic condition. Again -- the sooner the treatment, the better off you'll be.

With your symptoms, I think it's for the best that you see a lung specialist. No sense messing around with this. When my father was dying, he needed doctors of many different types. When they brought in a lung specialist I was amazed at how much he added to the mix. His evaluation revealed important things that the other doctors either disregarded or missed altogether. You would see a cardiologist for a heart problem. See a lung specialist for a breathing problem. Good luck.

Get a second opinion -- and don't seek medical advice on a chat board!

I agree, however most people are scared and just want to come here and be reassured a bit. Sometimes it helps just to have someone to talk to, even if just here on an anonymous board.

Good luck, OP. Whatever it is, you can be helped, and is probably nothing as bad as you fear.

Thanks everyone. Yea you're right gypsychic, just wanting to talk to someone about it. It's hard not to try to self diagnose yourself when you have so much information on the web to research.

Lungs are really soar today. Hoping the FDA at the doctor's office calls me today with an appointment. I already told them I couldn't wait a month.
