Are Tylenol and Ibuprofen a safe combination? It works great for my toothache and, maybe my Googling skills suck, but I can't find a caution about interactions.
Years ago my dentist recommended taking two Tylenol and one Ibuprofen together for greater than normal pain. I have used this "combo" for years but never in excess. I would not do this combo more than two or three times in any 24 hour period. It really does work well.
When my kids were little, the pediatrician would have me give them Tylenol, then 2 hours later, Motrin, 2 hours later, Tylenol....so on and so forth. That was 20 years ago, so I don't know what they say now.

Pretty much still the same. When I had the flu, I alternated. You just need to make sure that any other meds you're taking do not include those ingredients. (Also, if you take a prescription NSAID like Mobic, Naproxin, etc. do NOT take the ibuprofen!)
I'm biased on this because I hate Tylenol, hate the effects it can have on one's bodily organs. I call it poison and won't allow it in my home and never IN my body.
It's called stacking; they both work differently and in theory can be taken together safely when observing amounts, timing, etc... People have been doing this for years. You can alternate or take them together depending on how your doc trains you to do it. Some approve; some don't. The stacking is good for high temps.

Why not take the ibuprofen? What harm can ibuprofen do? As far as I've been able to find out, it's safer than aspirin, and a lot safer than acetaminophen.

You do not take IBU along with other NSAIDS. It's ok to take IBU, but not ok to double it with prescription NSAIDS. One or the other.
You already said not, but my question was why not.
