Best way to quit smoking?
I have tried Zyban and a few other prescript drugs to quit. Yes, they helped and kept me off it for awhile but I keep going back. I have thought of getting the patch but not sure. I really would love to wake up tomorrow, go cold turkey and detox for a few days as I have off until late next week. I just keeo waking up and running for the cigs. Yikes!

Plus I really never went cold turkey. I think I need to really go through that low to realize how awful this habit is but still I am weak to even think of it.

I think the best way to quit is cold turkey.
Make up your mind that you don't want to live like this anymore.
Yes, you can do it.

If i can quit cold turkey, anybody can. And the only way to quit for good is you have to really really want to. You can't do it for someone, only for yourself. Good luck.

There is a new medicine out called Chantix that i've heard people have had very good results with. Actually, I'll be starting it myself here in a couple of weeks. Good luck!

I know where you are Urbandeco. I've tried EVERYTHING and multiple aids simultaneously. I also was chicken about the "cold turkey" thing. It scared the daylights out of me and I never had enough will power to just say NO, over and over and over.
I am going on two months now as a non-smoker, on Chantix. It's been working well. After the first week, and you STOP, it does take a bit of discipline and will power, but it can be done and it's not as nerve wrecking as cold turkey. There have been many, many times when I wished I had a cigarette, but I haven't and that's the important part.
Lately, I've been forgetting to take some of the pills and I've managed to forget about the cigarette anyway.
I smoked for 40 years, at least 1 pack a day. So ask your doctor for a script for the Chantix. (I've tried Zyban, patch, hypnosis, acupuncture, etc. etc.) Try Chantix. It has a 60% success rate.
The other side of the story. My SO smoked for 30 years. About two weeks after I stopped, he switched to a ultra light pack. Smoked that. Then smoked only a few cigarettes the next day. Then used the patch one day. Then stopped completely. He's been off about 3 weeks now and is not having a difficult time.
We have no emergency cigarettes anywhere around.
Good luck.

One word WELLBUTRIN. Look it up and see for yourself. My friend tried everything, the doc gave her wellbutrin she quit cold turkey i sware to you. It's an atidepressant but for some reason they use it on addiction and it works quite well. I know kelly ripka used it when she quit. The best part is you lose weight on it. Do some research but i would give it a try if you want to quit that bad. One more thing as long as i've known this girl she has had a bad back the wellbutrin cured that to. It really seems to good to be true i know. Just look it up for yourself and you decide.

thanks
Hey guys. A quick update. I started the patch today. My SO, placed my first one on my arm this morning. I told him to do it before I got up, as I would run for the first ciggie. Actually, was glad he did. My day went okay. However, I met my parents for dinner-did well most of the night, even refrained from drinking. My mother smokes. At the end of the night I ripped the patch off and grubbed a ciggie from her. Now, I have smoked about 6 ciggies.
I have tried wellebutrin several times, and yes it does work like Zyban and seems to be similar to the new drug Chantix. I wanted to go on Chantix but apparently my insurance will not cover it unless I do some 12 step program like an alcoholic. My DR. will not write me a script for wellebutrin again, as he thinks I should see a psychiatrist for wanting to go on the antidepressant wellbutrin again (jerk).
I am going to try the patch again tomorrow, and again the next day. I hope I can get a few days of smoke free before heading back to work next Monday. I will update.
