I'll have to check w/Dr. on next visit, no telling when that will be though (I'm not a "regular" doctor visitor - in fact, didn't have a reg. Dr. for 8 yrs. or so) - see what she thinks about checking "titers" to see if I need anything.
I had an oral polio booster around 20. Don't consider tetanus a childhood vaccine, you normally have that every ten years throughout life. Had titres pre kids and didn't need an MMR booster.
Most childhood vaccines are contraindicated for adults anyway. HiB, pneumococcal, DTaP, chickenpox, rotavirus, HPV, meningococcal.
I just got a DPT booster a few years ago (although for some reason they seem to be using "TDAP" instead of "DPT" these days).
They're two different vaccines. Three, actually. TDaP is for adults, DTaP for kids, Td the old adult one and DTP the very very old, abandoned (in the first world) one called the whole cell vaccine. The newer acellular vaccine has fewer side effects.
I had a tetanus shot when I was a kid and stepped on a nail that poked through my sneaker and into my foot. I think that's the last time I've ever had a booster shot for anything at all. My doctor hasn't recommended any other than the flu shot, but she said I'm not really at risk so it would be just a general recommendation, and nothing urgent if I wanted to refrain. However, I am definitely considering getting a shingles vaccine. Just the thought of coming down with shingles is scary, even though my immune system is pretty amazingly solid.
My sister just got over shingles, and she was miserable. Hers was on her face, too, very painful. It followed the trigeminal nerve. She is below the recommended age for the vaccine, too.
I had TDaP this year, get flu shot every year, and so far have not been advised to get any others. Because I have mild asthma, I'd like to get the pneumonia vaccine, though. MMR, not sure if I still have any immunity, since I was vaccinated back in the dark days of the 1960's. I had chicken pox when I was 11, and that was a miserable two weeks.
yes my mom and I had the DPT booster back in 2011. When my nephew was born we were told by my brother that his doctor said any visitors staying with you has to have this. I thought it was ridiculous because people I know who have kids never heard of it and neither did my own doctor. I think my brother was being paranoid.
The Tdap booster is needed only once. It is given in place of the every ten year Td that we think of as the teanus booster, which also boosts against diphtheria. Pregnant women should take a Tdap in the third trimester of each pregnancy to boost her pertussis antibody levels, which she will pass to her baby. Those can protect the infant against pertussis for several months.

I hope they invent a stomach virus vaccination (norovirus especially). It's the worst thing any human can get.
I had both types of measles and chickenpox as a child. I never had mumps, so I had the vaccine for that when I went to college. Also had polio vaccine and smallpox vaccine as a child.
I have had the hepatitis B vaccine, pneumonia vaccine, shingles vaccine, and the Tdap. I need to ask about repeating the pneumonia vax, as the one I had did not protect against as many strains as the newer one.
Had all those diseases in childhood. Never have gotten that Tdap. Neither colleges I went to or my jobs. No flu, pneumonia, or shingles shots. NY public schools (outside of NYC) and Florida did not require flu shots. Quit working 4 years so don't know if they do today.
Suzy, I do stand corrected. I was offered that Hep. vax 3 times. Working in NY MR/DD Group Home, twice in NY and Florida public schools. I said no and never thought much about it again. Reading something on OSHA reminded me of it. Never thought much about it. Just an automatic no from me.
I got the TDaP a year or two ago and the MMR booster somewhere in there. Do not want pertussis or measles, thanks. There are several reported cases of measles in my county that were traced to a local grocery store (the chain I use, although not the exact store).
Yes, MMR for Gradschool as my Peditrician was long dead and could not find paperwork. The Gradschool required proof of it.
I could pay out of pocket for bloodwork to see if Vacinnes are still working or for free under insurance just get a second MMR. Doctor said since I was 26 better to just take the shot.
