I have mixed thoughts on this. My doctor found a benign ovarian cyst during routine physical. The resulting complete hysterectomy changed my life for the worse in so many ways.
My daughter's doc found benign adrenal cyst and she had surgery. Neither one of us ever had any symptoms at all.
For children up to a certain age I can see it but not for all adults.
I hadn't had a "complete" physical in years - and then one year I needed a refill on my thyroid meds (that I'll be on for the rest of my life), and the doctor decided that I was due for my yearly physical. So I had to schedule it (three months after the day I called), in order to get the prescription sent to the pharmacy. Had the physical, everything was swell, and she told me I needed one every year. I told her that was news to me since that was the second one I'd had in over 20 years and this was the first time her office had ever called to tell me I needed one. I told her I had no intention of having a yearly "complete" physical, and that I would not hesitate to come in if I'm not feeling well, if I have any symptoms of anything at all, and that I would of course get my CBCs and a regular checkup exam done once a year to satisfy the need for blood tests for the prescription.
Her office still bugs me every year, and now that I'm older I feel it's a good idea to get a "complete" exam every other year. I still go in if I have any kind of medical problems (which I rarely have), and I still get my yearly CBCs and go over them with the doctor before she prescribes my meds.
If you're on prescription meds and they're being paid for by an insurance company, they probably require a yearly visit to the doctor to approve paying for another years round of r/x.
I have to see one doc every year for refills to be approved by the insurance co. And at another doctor for pain meds I have to see the pain doc every 3 months for the insurance approved meds.
