Even if i have half glass of wine the day after I feel like if i havent slept for 3 days, exhausted, dehydrated, and get a little bit of migraines. Dont get me wrong, i love wine but i got to a point where I know I have to quit even a drop ruin the next day. Is there any other alcohol I can drink that doesnt give me those side effects? I am not a big drinker I just like to enjoy A drink with my friends once in a while without feeling like crab next day.

wow, I find it hard to understand how 1/2 glass of wine could have a reaction like you are experiencing, but I guess you know your body. Maybe beer would work, but I don't drink it so would have no idea. Maybe a cocktail would be the one thing you could drink. I really have no idea. Good luck, of course you can always just drink a soda, maybe tonic water with a little lime.

I would try drinking a big glass of water after having the wine. Maybe you're a little dehydrated the next day? Just a guess!

There are a lot of health issues with alcohol consumption including increased risk of liver damage, iron overload, esophageal varicies, heart enlargement, uric acid build up. There is also an issue of the high lead levels that have been found in wines, especially out of heavily populated areas such as california. So I do not see any benefits outweighing risks when it comes to alcohol comsumption.

I don't think this thread is meant to lecture people on the use of alcohol period. The Op simply asked if there was something she could drink when she is with her friends instead of wine? Most of us are trying to give her suggestions and/or suggesting she talk to her doctor. There may be a reason she can not tolerate even one glass.

There are a lot of threads here that deal with the pros and cons of consuming alcohol.

Both my mother and mother-in-law were not able to tolerate ANY alcohol - some people can't due to health issues.

As suggested, perhaps beer might be better tolerated as it is lower in alcohol. If you can't drink even a tiny bit of wine, then I do NOT recommend hard liquor of any kind! I myself am a wine drinker (2 glasses per night) but have poor tolerance for hard liquor.

i am pretty much like you. I really just do not care for hard liquor. I will have a martini a few times a year and just one but generally my wine and I enjoy each other every night. Even on cruises, I will usually have wine. Hubby will have a drink of scotch or maybe a vodka tonic but generally not me.
