Hello everyone, I really hope you can help me.

My mother has been ill with a urine problem and she's currently at peek stress levels, which in turn is starting to affect us all. She doesn't talk about it much really so I don't know a great deal about exactly what the problems are but I know she's had lots of different kinds of tablets for it and non of them seem to work for more than a week or two before the problems come back. Even with my completely non medical background, I know enough to know that so many tablets can't be good for you. Is there anything you know of that will make her better?

Max.

Have her get a second/third opinion from other Dr.s. Not all Dr.s are created equal!!

Without knowing what the diagnosis is it will be hard for anyone to offer any useful advice. I agree that more than one doctor needs to be seen. Some doctors know how to write prescriptions and not a whole lot else. Has she seen a holistic doctor? A urologist?

When you talk about "peak stress levels" - are you talking emotional type distress or stress urinary incontinence? When you say a "urine problem" do you mean she's leaking urine or has loss of bladder control?

Hi madmax, how are you?
I think I can relate here. I have been dealing with my incontinency for about 14 years now. I also have been on every pill they have for this. Mine is my "smooth bladder muscle". That is the muscle that runs just under your bladder. It is about as wide as your hand. Mine has decided to go stupid. There is no corrective surgery for this yet. I'm thinking they are getting closer to a stem cell surgery of some kind for it. I keep hoping anyway.
I have been seeing specialists in this field and they claim they still know nothing about this. They just give out concauctions of meds for it. I am tired of the meds. I was told when I was diagnosed with this, that I could not stay on these peticular drugs for the rest of my life, because they would start shutting down my major organs. Well that wasn't very nice seeins how they don't have any relief for it other than those drugs.
My specialist in Springfield,Il. told me he has been in this field for 38 years. He has a best, friend who is also a specialist in this field who is in Indiana. These two men have been studying this all this time and still can't nobody figure out why or how to fix it. My doc said I have the worst case he has ever seen. My tests went clean off the machine. He didn't know what to say. I also change pills about every other month. THe same ones over and over.

It is very frustrating!! I have had to find certain hours that my body stops producing so much urine and try to get at least 3 full hours of sleep. My sleep hours right now are 5am to 11:30am. If I try to lay down and go to sleep like a normal person with normal hours, then I am up changing pajamas, bedclothes, and very angry. Angry because I am wet clear up to my hair. That is with wearing an adult diaper and sleeping on a baby pad,and everything. Does your mama wear a depends at all? For bed or otherwise?
Definitely get her to the doc. But it sounds like she has been if she is taking meds. Start talking to her about stem cell surgery. Tell her to find some hours, day or night where she can try to get some consecutive hours of sleep. If she can get 3 in with out having to pee or having an accident than she should stick to those hours for sleep and nap around when she can.
I am 44, tell her she is not alone.
There is also a procedure to put the kink back into the urethea tube. My x-sister inlaw had a this procedure done. I never knew about it. I guess through the years, due to having babies mostly, a womans urethea tube can straighten out. THat is not good. So ya go in and have it rebent. She said it has worked for her. Although this is not my problem maybe it would help your mother. Well, I hope I have helped some. Good Luck and let me know something if ya get the chance.

Curious as there are a number of new pelvic floor slings available in the recent year. If you have not been back to see them AND they are one of the above specialists, I would make an appointment.
Ya know, I'm not sure. I will find out. I'm pretty sure though, that both of mine are these. I do only get to make appoinments when they want to see me. They are good about seeing me when I call though. What should I say when I get this appointment. I have to travel for 3 1/2 hours to get to my specialist. I can't believe that there is not a stem cell surgery for this muscle though. They can grow a bladder in a petri dish but they can't fix the muscle? My bladder holds about 4 oz.. which is way off normal. I don't know if you caught the fact that I had to have kidney surgery or not but yes, I did on my right one. It was completely blocked and I had 45 minutes to get into emergency surgery or go in to renal failure and possibly death. They moved my kidney tube to a new spot on my bladder.
Yes, I have multiple problems going on. I didn't really realize it until just recently. I really appreciate your info. on this. I will keep you posted.

I've been doing my homework too It seems that lots of online sources are saying to avoid cranberry/orange juice, red meats and also to keep alcohol to a minimum. Also lots of them are suggesting a sugar of some sort called dmannose.... Any thoughts? Or indeed any more suggestions are welcome.

You can do this by a simple call to the office, and ask to speak to the office manger. Ask that person about the credentials of the physician, including medical school attended, and where the residency took place, and what specialty the residency was related to. Ask if the physician is Board Certified in the specialty. These are not secrets- and the office should be happy to relay the information to you. IF they are hesitant- find another physician.

One thing you can do is to check with your State's Medical Examiner board to find out the specialty of those to whom you are paying visits. Do a google search for "Medical Examiners Board" for your current State. Once there, find the link for consumers or doctor's profile. Enter the physicians last name. It should show you the training and license information of the physician. Additionally, it will show the history of the physician. IF the physician is a D.O., you may have to google for Osteopathic Medical Examiner Boards. Again, these are not secret web sites. Rather, they are consumer based sites which should be utilized before picking a physician.

Now, and some people may not like this, but it is too bad- it is an opinion- IF you are seeing a naturopath, you may want to look into finding an MD or DO physician to handle this problem.

Additionally, If you are not satisfied with the current modalities being offered to you, you should seek another physician. Will that guarantee a result? No- BUT you may get more helpful information.

I wish you good luck on this

Hi eddiek, Thanks a whole bunch!! You people on here are truly awesome. You are very right eddiek. I need to get some more info. on my doctors. I only have 5 doctors afterall. That is too many. But none of them are back specialists. My specialist in Springfield has written a book on urology. I'll try to get the info for that tomorrow. I will call there. I am on medicaid so I cannot just pick up and go to another doctor without a referral from one of my doctors now. I am in the process of filing for disability. I'm not sure what I will have control over as far as second opinions and choosing my own doctors.

Thank you again and I will get back with you.

Has she gotten any relief yet? Ya know, there are pills out that do help this kind of problem. If her muscle is giving out like mine, then there is no diet for this. It is a muscle, if that is the case. What does her doctor diagnosed her with? I hope she gets relief soon.
