I'm on antibiotics for a nasty case of strep throat and its clindamycin which seems to be associated with rather nasty belly troubles which I really don't want. The doctor prescribed s. boulardii to take alongside which I hope will help but my belly is already hurting and I only started them last night so what else is good to help?

Ginger capsules help with upset stomach.

When my daughter had strep throat, the doctor told her to eat a yogurt every time she took an antibiotic so that she wouldn't get a yeast infection.

Don't think I can manage 3 yoghurts a day! I shall go look for some ginger capsules tomorrow.

Ginger will help with nausea, but not abdominal cramping and diarrhea caused by the antibiotic. Go get a really good probiotic (the refrigerated kind) at a health food store. You need to replace the good gut bacteria that are being killed by the antibiotic.

Ginger helps with cramping and nausea, but not with diarrhea.

When my daughter had to have the yogurt, I just gave her a big spoonful of my homemade yogurt every time she had to take an antibiotic.

Inliven probiotic powder and / or Healthforce Nutritionals friendly force may be worth trying. It can't harm to ask your Doctor about them.

Take yogurt with or shortly after the pills.

Kefir. Kefir>Yogurt. Get the unsweetened kind. Lifeway Kefir can be found at Whole Foods and most health food type stores.

A good probiotic supplement like Natrens. The good ones are the ones kept in the refrigerated section of your local nutrition store.

Raw cultured vegetables/raw sauerkraut. These are also found at health food stores in the refrigerated section. Use only the refrigerated ones and not the ones from the supermarket with sodium benzoate.

Also avoid all foods containing sugar.

Report the problems to your doctor. One day is not really long enough for the normal digestion issues. btdt but the real trouble started when I was on them for about a week.
