Has anyone had positive/negative experiences with these? Mirena works for 5 years and Liletta just became available and works for 3 years. No, I do not have children but I know there have been people who said IUDs increase fertility issues. My gynecologist said that's not true and there's no evidence to back it up.
I had a Mirena and I spotted the whole time I had it, enough that I had to use a tampon all the time. The strings scratched my partner enough to leave scratches that scabbed over. And then it just randomly came out...I started cramping up during a long bike ride and when I got home, I could feel that the Mirena was partly out. Once it was out, I started having very heavy bleeding, enough that I had to take progesterone pills to make it stop.
The insertion was also fairly uncomfortable. I had a biopsy done the same day and wasn't expecting that the insertion would feel worse than the biopsy, but it did.
I know a lot of people have had much better experiences with IUDs than I did.
