A family member woke up with yellow pus in the right eye and a litttle bit in the left.
How big of a deal is it? Is it ok to wear contacts? Is it urgent to see a doctor?

She has to leave for a work trip for a few days - should she call in sick and go see an ophtalmologist?

If this is something beyond her normal sleep gunk then I wouldn't put contacts in and I would try to see an ophthalmologist or urgent care.

Is his/her eye red? It might be conjunctivitis (pink eye).
I used to get that occasionally when I wore contacts.
Use a new washcloth (each time!) and carefully wipe the eye area with warm water.
Pink eye is contagious.

I have used honey (mixed with warm water) to cure pink eye. Just mix the honey with warm water and use a clean q-tip to dab around the eye (letting some of the mixture drain into the eye).

Don't wear your contacts until the eye is clear (and clean them well before you use again).

I always went to work...

You can also go to the CVS minute clinic for an antibiotic prescription.

They need to see an eye doctor...pus anywhere is not a good sign of health!
