I work in fast food & recently I got another job. While my job in fast food has me standing and walkiñg around, this second job will require me to stand in the same place.
Im just so miserable. My feet hurt so bad. By the time I get out of work I am hobbling . It has been happenin for a while but the pain has just gotten to me. It does not help that as soon as I get out of work I walk home. By the time I get home my feet hurt so bad I cant stand. When I take off my socks and shoes, the pain GETS WORSE. My feet throb my crazy. Lately I have had trouble sleeping. I try to put my feet up but its hard bc I sleep on a cot. I have tried rubbing them together when I sleep and it feels good and helps but it still hurts. Im so miserable. I have a high pain tolerance but this is the worst.
I dont know whats wrong. I have good shoes. I just need to be able to work plus I have work to do at home and I can't lay up on the couch when I get home I have responsibilities. Anything over the counter that will work or a home remedy?? Thanks in advance for help
Like you, even in my 20's I had sore feet. No matter if I took two pairs to work to exchange half way through my shift, my feet hurt.
I went to a foot specialist and she did this and that and gave me a prescription for special orthodics. My feet roasted alive with them and I got NO relief. I tried gel inserts. Nope, didn't work either. I bought very expensive running shoes... nope, them neither. Even in my slippers or bare feet while I was at home and standing for any length of time, my feet hurt.
THEN, my sister in law suggested Birkenstocks sandals. I bought a pair of soft cork footbed sandals for $100... They conform to the bottom of your foot as you wear them.
I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH GOOD ABOUT THEM. For $100 I finally found relief. I now own 4 pair. One for the cottage, one for our travel trailer, one for in the house and one when we are traveling. I LOVE them all.
While I am not totally pain free, they have made a WORLD of difference to my comfort. Just a word of warning, they aren't pretty, so don't expect lots of compliments. I could care less about looking pretty when something like this has improved my life so much.

Birkenstocks aren't appropriate for retail. Standard dress usually requires either all black or all white shoes, toes and heels covered. Sandals absolutely not appropriate unless your job is on the beach.
Yeah that's the only thing I cant wear sandals to work and I cant spend $100 on shoes anyway
I have been thinkin about it and honestly I don't care if my feet hurt when I get home I can be slow there. But at work I will be fine and then in the last four hours of my shift my feet will hurt like crazy. Im also slower bc in the pain in my feet and thats no good bc that's when I have to start cleaning and walking around, sweeping up outside and the bathrooms. Same with my new job. My feet start to but when I need them not to. Im slower which isn't good bc my manager says I need to be faster. I would be if it wasnt for my feet hurting so bad :/
Brands like Birkenstock don't just make sandals, they make amazingly comfortable shoes with backs too. I just checked on ebay and you definitely wouldn't have to pay $100.00. Another brand that has the cork is Stegmann and they make shoes with backs even though they're mostly known for clogs.
Look on their websites and see what they say about their shoes and why they are good for your feet.
You can't mess around wearing cheap shoes or you'll ruin your feet. It can get worse than it is already.
I'd still say--go to a really good store where they sell these brands, try the different brands on because they all fit differently, and then go online, maybe to ebay and get the same thing for a whole lot less--maybe $20-$30 even. There may be other online sites too but I'm very frugal (and am not rich!) yet I wear well made shoes like Keen, Ecco, Reiker, Birkenstock, Stegmann. There are a lot of other really good brands--these are just the ones that happen to fit ME. I don't buy them in the stores either; I get them online after I've visited real stores and figured out what fits best. You don't want to hurt your feet--it's about proper fit, support, and cushioning. Buying some cheap gel insert in the local store isn't going to help. You need good quality shoes.

We're all trying to tell you this -without actually saying it, so I'll come right out and say it:
If your feet are -that- bad at your age - and you're young - then it's likely you're going to end up damaging your spine. Bad feet = bad posture = bad back. The #1 gift you can give to your back is healthy, comfortable feet. Your spine's #1 enemy is unhealthy feet.
How much can you afford, when the doctor tells you that you can't work retail anymore because your disks are herniated and surgery will put you out of any work at all for a minimum of three months?
You're borrowing from your future. Either invest in good shoes, or don't complain about having aching feet.
I agree, possibly plantar fasciitis. Better to bypass us and see a podiatrist, I think - the way you explain where your feet hurt in patterns, will help them tell you what kind of shoes/inserts to buy and what your primary problems are. I've got bad PF lately, OP, I feel your pain.
What do you mean about good shoes? You need orthopedic shoes or at least SAS and those other brands that the other posters suggested. Good shoes may just be well made but they don't address your pain problems. You are very young to start having these problems that, if not corrected, may turn out to be a lifetime of feet pain. Do not ignore the pain and walk through it - your feet are hurting to tell you something. You shouldn't turn to painkillers but rather make an appointment with a podiatrist to see what they can do for your feet. Being so young, you can cause irreversible damage to your feet. Foot pain once chronic is a terrible thing to deal with and also the bones/tendons in your feet wear down and can be really destroyed. You got so much walking to do your life still, decades and decades, do not ignore this.
