Hi all,

I have been hearing my pulse in my right ear for over a year now. I am very much disturned and depressed coz of this. It affects my daily job and routine

A small overview.

2011 - Was diagnosed with H.pylori in Scotland.Took Antibiotics for a month. Started to feel terrible after that.

2012 - Was B12, D insufficient. Started to become Anxious

2013 - Became very anxious, palpitations, fatigue, acid reflux, bloating etc

2014 - End of 2014 a gastro in Chicago gives me an other round of antibiotics (Rifaxamin) to clean up my stomach. H.pylori tests were done and came negative. I still do not know why she gave me a round of antibiotics.

2015 - Terrible year. After I complete my antibiotics, I started to become very jittery and shivery. Ear starts pulsing. When I stand up and talk to someone ear pulses. When I am in a crowd ear pulses. When I go to a counter to buys something ear pulses. When I sit and watch TV ear pulses. Its very hard. I also have neck pain. I am in a sedentary job.

One of my doctor friend gave me Diflucan thinking it would be Candida after two rounds of antibiotics. That actually helped. I dont drink cofee/tea or any carbonated or energy drinks at all. Well I consume alcohol, but a responsible drinker.

I always have a running nose and facial pressure along with headache and neck pain off late.

Despite all this I am very active in the gym. Workout 4 times a week for 2 hours a day. Normal BP.

I want my ear pulsing to go away. Went to my primary care Phy and he is like this is normal and just dont think of it. How can you not hink if you cant hear anything but pounding in your year. Its so depressing. Should I go for MRI or any of that. Not sure if i can convince my GP.

Anybody having similar symptoms can help me please?

Myhead

Try some allergy meds. An antihistamine should dry up that runny nose but you might want a decongestant for the facial pressure you feel. I get that pulsating ear when I'm severely congested; I take a decongestant year round to relieve it and it may not work immediately so you should probably take it for a week or more before deciding if it helps or not. Congestion can be hard to crack. Drink more water. General rule for water intake is 1 oz. for each inch of height but drink a bit more than that while on antihistamine and decongestant. If you are heating your home, add a humidifier.

Thanks for responding. I am taking antihistamines. I will start with decongestants too. Do you have a suggestion for decongestants?

Thanks,
Myhead

I take Mucinex-D. You have to get it from the pharmacy and you'll have to present your photo ID and sign for it but it is the best decongestant available.

is it a ringing/swooshing sound in your ear, or is your eardrum spasming? (like hearing a drumbeat in your ear every few seconds)

Is it s swooshing kind of sound? That is what I had. I research it and read it could be caused by a magnesium deficiency. I started taking magnesium and it went away within a few days. It never came back.

I'm not much into home medicine, but I just thought I would try it before calling the doctor, not expecting it to work.

Hey,

Sorry. I did not come in here for a while.

@Northeastah. yeah its a drum beat. It feels like I am hearing my heart beat. I don't hear it all the time. It has a pattern, like when I talk to people (Anxiety I guess). More so in social situations and when I am stressed.

@maggie2101 - My blood pressure is mostly normal. But it's always a little high in the doctors office. But normal at home and whn i check it in a pharmacy.

@Eeko156 - I have been taking Magnesium oxide for a while and no big improvements. I am trying B12 now to see if that could stabilize my nervous system

myrc60 - Sure. Thanks

Thanks all for taking time to respond. Hope I am free of pulsing soon

@My - you may want to consider seeing a Neurotoloist - an uber specialist of the ear including neurological disorders and tinnitus.

it sounds like you may have pulsatile tinnitus if you're hearing a heartbeat or swooshing sound in your ear. but if it is not chronic and triggered by certain sounds or anxiety, that is something else. Please refer to the 2nd link I posted above and read the symptoms ^

Magnesium oxide is garbage. you want to take something your body will actually absorb - like glycinate, malate, citrate (most things with "ate" at the end are better). also, don't cheap out on supplements. since it is not a regulated industry, you are better off spending more $ reading reviews and going with brands other people trust. I prefer Solgar and KAL brands.
