I'm in my college dorm and feeling really sick with what I think is a stomach flu. The vending machines don't have ginger ale, there is no one around who has any because of Easter Break. I feel WAY too awful to walk to a convenience store right now.

I have medicine (Pepto-Bismol), but what drinks other than ginger ale can be good for an upset stomach? Sprite? Apple juice?

I'm hoping for a quick answer otherwise I'll just try to pull myself together enough to go to the store to get some ginger ale, and probably some better medication.

Coca-Cola, preferably the Mexican Coke made with real cane sugar instead of HFCS, but the domestic product will do.

I've actually had Coke prescribed to me by my doctor. He said that some of those secret ingredients in Coke have genuine stomach-soothing qualities in spite of Coke having a ph of around 2.8.

In a pinch Sprite or 7-Up may help settle your stomach. Ginger Ale works the best for me. I hope that you feel better soon!

Hot tea has tannin which helps. But once it cools, it breaks down. Fresh hot tea is the only thing.

Mama always got us 7 - Up for an upset stomach. Sometimes when we were getting over the flu with a lot of throwing up, we'd get flat 7-Up. Just pour it between a couple glasses 3 or 4 times.

Hope you get feeling better.

On the advice of a friend, I walked to the Mast General Store in downtown Boone and got the special all-natural Ginger Ale they had there. I requested an unrefrigerated one, and the cashier understood that I was sick. It was really good, and I think it actually helped. I wish I had bought a few more bottles.

I've been sick for about 2 full days now, at what point should I start to really worry? I'm also a little feverish now which probably removes the food poisoning hypothesis I had earlier.

What about Gatorade to restore electrolytes from vomiting/diarrhea?

So long as your staying hydrated and not running a high fever, than you probably just need to let it runs it's course. Get honey, tea, and fresh lemons in. Get more of the Ginger ale. If you like sparkling water, that calms my stomach. Get some Lipton's chicken soup in. You need to drink way more than normal!

Sorry you feel crappy! My mom used to zap Coke (not diet) in the microwave for just long enough to make it flat and warm. Worked well when we didn't have ginger ale on hand. I drank a lot of ginger ale during chemo and now have a negative mental relation to it so even the smell makes me gag, but I also get upset stomachs way easier. The flat Coke works really well. Right now is the best time to get it too because you can get the Kosher for Passover Coke with a yellow top. That's made from sugar, not HFCS. I always stock up specifically for tummy troubles.

In general, keep yourself well hydrated. Take slow sips throughout the day.
