The people who became ill after receiving the Genetech products had been given injections into their knees, shoulders or spines to treat painful conditions like arthritis or injuries. They contracted infections in their bloodstreams or joints, and all were hospitalized.
One patient spent 58 days in the hospital with a bloodstream infection, a spinal abscess and other spinal problems. Another, with an infected knee, was hospitalized for 30 days. The shortest stay was four days; others lasted 12, 15 or 35 days.
Tests of unopened vials of the cord-blood products taken from clinics giving the shots found the same types of microbes that had infected the patients, which included E. coli and other fecal bacteria.
The MD in my area that does Stem Cells uses the patients OWN stem cells from their bone marrow.. There are clinics springing up all over the place that are bottling stem cells somehow from somewhere and one has to be aware of what's going on.
A friend took one of her friends to get stem cells yesterday and now I'm wondering which avenue her doctor used.
Infections are ugly and go rampant in so many areas of surgery and even from drugs.
I had one but it was not from stem cells and not certain what, perhaps an unclean needle.
My sister was waiting for years for stem cells for the MS she was dealing with, died before she got them.
A friend went to Dominican Republic and spent $25K for stem cells for her MS and she lives on.
My plan is NOT to get stem cells as for one thing I cannot afford them.
Infection can happen and for sure very very ugly. The doctors treating me didn't find the infection going on for months, MRI showed it....much longer who knows, I may not be typing this.

I've talked to him on phone and we've emailed and I will see him next year.
Since this post, I looked up infections due to hospital surgeries, drugs, nursing homes etc etc and 100,000's die annually....
So I'm not going to panic about my situation, it's been nasty, but when I think of the major hip surgery and I was lucky to come out with no infection. Plenty come out with infections. Off topic a bit but about infections.
Stem cells injections are a small portion of the infections, not good for anyone to get infections, but there are far far more than this stem cell link.
There is a major segment that would like to see stem cells fail and for pharma and surgery to thrive.
I know this is off topic, but wow!!! Have you been back to this doctor since this happened?
If it actually was due to an unclean needle (don't they always give injections with new sterile needles, wear gloves, and disinfect the skin beforehand?) there are way bigger problems with that doc than injections! This isn't 1820.

Yes. My intent was to respond to Jamin's broader speculation about "unclean needles". The result of investigation given in the article was a lot more likely.
