So, I have been having issues with my right knee since I was a kid. I used to run track and field in elementary and high school. It would hurt and I would wear a brace. Fast foward to college, and I had instances where my knee would randomly pop out of place while hurting. Seems that each time it happens, it feels a bit more painful than the last time. A few weeks ago, it popped out again and 2 days ago while I was lifting 40 pound boxes. Lots of pain and swelling that night.
I took the day off from work yesterday to get it checked out at the clinic and was referred to a hospital to take an xray. Got a call at the end of the day saying nothing was wrong with my knee but I didn't get an explanation as to why the knee has given me a lot of issues. Though I pressed for an answer as to why, they couldn't give me one.
Should I seek a 2nd opinion from a knee/leg specialist instead?

My knee started giving me fits at 57, I'm heading to 78, so over 20 yrs coming up. I wear a knee support, have tried many over the 20 yrs and now use a magnetic one. Also a lot of topicals and found a new one recently for *deep tissue* pain. DM me if you want the name. I am also doing my own acupuncture now at home, went to acupuncture for years but now learned to do it at home. I don't work any more so I can rest my knee a lot but still keep it moving or it freezes up more. I can BEND my knee good so I know there is cartlidge and good tissue there. I know my issue is osteoarthritis and that could be your issue to.
You can go to ortho MD's and get xrays etc and attempt to get a good dx, I did that years ago but I know now at this point what is going on. I take other joint supplements and as I say I've been dealing with my issue over 20 yrs...my knee is worse since hip replacement and body being off alignment. I personally don't want any knee surgery but many go that route.
If you have extra weight on the joints, everything can be worse. DM me if you want more specifics on what I take.

It is not clear what you mean by a "clinic," but you need to see a physical medicine or sports medicine physician who can diagnose exactly what is wrong with you knee. As some else mentioned, they will do that in conjunction with an MRI. An orthopedic surgeon can also likely diagnose your problem but I am more trusting in some who doesn't make their living doing surgery.
It seems like you have gone too many years without a proper diagnosis. Only a specialist can make that diagnosis.

I would head to a recommended orthopedist that specializes in knees. None of us have any idea what could e the problem: there are so many possibilities. My hubby had a similar problem while in college and it kept him out of Marine officers school. I felt really bad for him. As years went by, it did stop popping out, but now, he is told both knees are bone on bone. You may have something that can not be treated, you may find there is a simply treatment or you may be looking at something a little more invasive.
Thanks for all of the advice. I am calling a sports medicine facility today so they can take a look at my knee. The accident at work happened Thursday and just yesterday at work, I felt a little jolt of pain, but not enough to be disabling or anything. Even crawling into bed as my knee touched it bed, it felt a bit sensitive and unstable. Hopefully, this leads me in the right direction.

I am very young, 23 and I have been having issues with the same knee as a kid. So, I have no idea what the issue could be until I get a proper diagnosis. I don't want knee surgery, but if the extent of what is going on requires it, then I would have to do it. Especially if it is advice from a sports med. doctor instead of a general surgeon.

A general surgeon is not going to be doing any surgery on your knee, only an Orthopedic surgeon who specializes in Sports Medicine or Total Joints should/would be doing that. Surgeons in all specialties, including Ortho, spend a fair amount of their time assessing patients and often determining surgery is not necessary. That's what a good surgeon does. If you hear of a surgeon that recommends surgery (for non trauma issues) for almost all his/her patients, then they are probably to be avoided.

My first doctor I saw about my right creaky knee was a sports med MD and I was 57. He knew what was going on, arthritis setting in and rearing it's ugly head. I still manage that knee with all I do to avoid knee surgery.
