I was on generic Lipitor for 3 years and started having severe muscle soreness. I was on the smallest dose possible and no longer take any, trying fish oil, niacin, and red yeast rice and hoping my blood work shows good enough numbers when my blood work is done in December. My cholesterol and triglycerides were pretty high but no one in my family has problems with heart attacks before age 70. I have no idea if they have both high cholesterol and good longevity.

Just be aware that red yeast rice contains the statin lovastatin.
