A few weeks back, I put my son to bed at 9pm. I then sat down in my bed A bunch of pillows propped behind me. I was using my iPad for a minute and I felt my right hand get numb, as if I was sleeping. I could barely use the iPad. I told my wife that my hand, and then my entire arm was tingling. I stood up and realized that my entire right side was tingling. It was scary. I felt like something was going wrong. Image it down the stairs and googled the symptoms. Everythingg said stroke or mini stroke. I couldn't believe that was happening to me. I told my wife that something was wrong and that I was drivintpgto the ER. My right side was entirely numb for the ride to the Hospital. They had me in a room and was there for 5 hours. The numbness stopped after 30 minutes but they took blood, gave me a CT Scan of my head and an EKG. Of course, they said everything was fine and released me.

So, what happened? I was told to follow up with a neurologist, which I am doing tomorrow. It definitely wasn't a nerve thing. I have 7 herniated disks from 4 different bad car accidents over the years but I never experience an entire side of my body go numb at the same time and for no reason such as placing pressure on a nerve. My head was not numb. It was from the shoulders down.

Anyone have any ideas?

Do you get migraines? Silent migraine symptoms mimic a stroke and you don't necessarily have to have a headache.

I never get migraines or bad headaches. This came completely out of the blue. Only issues I ever had was my gall bladder removed twelve years ago and some back pain from some accidents. The only nerve pain I ever had was in my lower back, where my herniations are that sometimes shoot through my hip.,never on an entire side of my body. It lasted thirty minutes and hasn't happened since. All google searches led to mild stroke but the doctor in the ER said he didn't think it was that. I will see what the neurologist says later today. My guess is they will find nothing wrong and will tell me it was a one time thing, which scares me because it can happen at any time.

An MRI will confirm if you had a stroke.

Yes, I have ideas. More importantly, what did your neurologist think today?

I apparently had a TIA in 1986. I was in Germany on vacation and did nothing. By the time I got home and saw my internist, there was nothing to see on the EEG.

Neurologist asked a bunch of questions, did a bunch of simple tests and said he cannot say for sure what happened. He said everything was perfect today other than my blood pressure being 140/90. He is guessing that I may have had a blood clot reach my brain that cut off any signal to my right side nerves that may have worked its way out after half an hour.

He is sending me for an MRI, full blood test, heart test, EMG, etc to rule anything out but he expects to find nothing wrong. He said I appear too healthy and fit (HA!) to have anything really wrong with me. I should find everything out by the end of the month.
