What causes a person to cough upon walking into a different room? Today it happened when I walked into a particular store at a mall. It felt like it was because the room was cooler or maybe because I could feel the cool air.
I've also experienced it when entering a larger open area.
Either way, I will start having a coughing fit and I need to get a cough drop or something to control it.
I avoid a lot of stores now but I don't recall coughing from walking into stores. I have heard people complain about walking around walmarts and even costco stores as so much is brought in from china. Don't know. Lots of different aromas in many stores.

Thanks for any information.
It is probably sensitivity to something in the room or who knows. I have the exact thing, especially during the high allergy season. My daughter just laughs at me. It has gotten to the place when I go to her house she meets me at the door, invites me in and says here is a tissue for you. We just laugh. BTW her house is spotless. I can go from our bedroom to the kitchen and sneeze or kitchen to living room.

I doubt stores carrying merchandise from China has much to do with anything. Today,, any store you walk into will have something made in China. This goes for dept stores, grocery stores, hardware stores, pet shops, you name it.
Dry air probably. Ive been like that since I was a kid and im in my mid 70's now.
Well I am not sure in my case dry air has much to do with it, but of course with the AC on so much this time of the year I guess it could. That certainly is a thought. I do wonder why it affects us when we go from one room to the other?
When I am in a tire store my breathing shuts down. Manager had to call 911. Onece in Walmart a sizable display of dyed towels caused my breathing to shut down. 911 called again.
I avoid dyed towels and if I see them I hold my breath while walking by. I never go in inclosed stores that sell tires. I call in advance and explain they bring the paper work to me now..
Also, I wonder if it could be pschosomatic. Yesterday it happened when I was looking at DVD's in a store. I had been in the area for a couple of minutes. I got to one section that had a lot of interesting titles, and that is when the coughing started. I had to leave the area, and keep walking and actually leave the store and go outside before it stopped. It was definitely warmer outside, but it made me wonder. As if my subconscious was telling me I didn't need that temptation to purchase DVD's. But it definitely could have been the cool air also because I felt it.
I also think it is possible that a majority of illnesses could actually be psychosomatic, somewhat, since I believe that the body and mind are interconnected.

Loads of stuff used in packing lets off a gas which is smelly and affects a lot of people and all these horrible scented candles that seem to be in all the shops these days are horrible .
