I hadn't read thru the article when I posted it but turns out it's about a woman with MS and how she was over-medicated with the MS drug she was taking. My sister has declined SO much since she trusted all her MD's bombardment of drugs. Each time my phone rings I think, Oh no, my sister is gone. She's lost so much weight, cannot speak, cannot feed herself and of course cannot walk but as her MD's told her the drugs would stop the progression. Yes, I'm angry, I've lost a sister and she lost her life. Many with MS can live pretty well on minimal drugs and nutrition and supps.

Apparently you STILL haven't read the very article you posted because the woman you reference in the article, if you HAD read it you would know she wasn't "overmedicated"....she built up toxic levels of a single medication, Baclofen, which is COMMONLY prescribed for MS...

The reason she had built up toxic levels? Significant weight loss without a change in dosage of the medication....something her physician apparently picked up on readily once he became aware of the situation

Not her naturopath or "holistic practitioner"....her MD....

A lot of people would be dead without antibiotics but it's very true that they have been over prescribed for many years. People used to routinely die of TB before antibiotics were developed. Unfortunately we have people who go running to a doctor demanding antibiotics for a cold or some other illness that isn't even affected by antibiotics and for some reason, some doctors actually give them the antibiotics!

Used when needed and taken with pro-biotics, they seem to be a whole lot better than going without them when a serious infection can be cured with them.

I hate statins so that's it. Been there, done that.

Psycho meds--antidepressants after my divorce only made me sick. But they probably help some people so there again, it all depends. If you can do without them, that's better. But if someone is bi-polar or has some other serious mental illness, psycho drugs can help control it. Maybe there are other ways, who knows?

The rest...I have zero knowledge or experience.

I think you have selective reading habits.

To quote the article, which states this at the beginning:
Quote:
The answer which her ever-vigilant doctor immediately suspected was drug toxicity, a gradual buildup of prescription medication in her bloodstream. Herbert, who has multiple sclerosis, had been taking baclofen for the past six years to control muscle spasms in her legs. She had taken the same dose all that time with no ill effects, but three months before her disorienting episode, she had begun a strict, low-carb diet and had proudly shed 15 pounds. Because she was thinner yet still taking the same dose of  baclofen, the drug had built up to toxic levels.
I would not be surprised if she had not run this diet and weight loss by her doctor first. I was just prescribed a medication for when my OA is bothering me and the first thing the doctor looked at before he picked the dosage was my weight.

Good post and very well put:

I am on antibiotics right now; 2 kinds of which one I finished the end of last week, the other tomorrow; I have had side effects from them. I have heard as we age we are more inclined to suffer from med side effects, but thank god we have them. I think the most important thing to remember isn't what appears in one publication, but be pro active with your doctor and share concerns with him or her.

Bottom line so many trust and believe in drugs and their doctors and many of us do not.

I've taken a few abx drugs in my almost 78 years but thankfully not a lot. I work to keep my immune system in good shape and strong.

Abx drugs have their place and I know my body was bombarded with IV's abx during hip replacement surgery. I've taken amoxicillian a couple times for dental issues but now since using coconut oil so much I've been good in dental world.

A good alternative for abx drug is Echineaca and I've been known to rely on this herbal.

I had an ear infection about 10 yrs ago during March winds and had to end up with abx drug..I tried to avoid it but went to one from an MD.

That's all well and fine, but YOUR story was about a vigilant doctor who noticed his patient's weight loss and subsequently over dosing on prescribed medication.
