What are the negative side effects of a tetanus shot? I need it for college but I am superstitious when it comes to getting injections. I have high blood pressure and kidney problems. What kind of person should avoid getting a tetanus shot?

those type questions should be asked of your doctor, not here.
I get a tetanus shot when it's time for one and I think that is every 7-10 years. I've never had any adverse reaction to it--if that helps. My arm is only a bit sore for a couple days but that's small fry compared to the possibility of actually getting lockjaw

See here:

Tetanus Vaccine Questions and Answers

What you probably need is actually the combined tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis vaccine (TDaP).

The most common side effect is a sore arm and sometimes body aches and fatigue. Allergy is pretty rare.

You should not get the vaccine if you know you are allergic to any of the components or have certain neurological problems. People who had adverse reactions as a child (not due to allergy) can take the vaccine as an adult.

Please discuss your concerns with your doctor.

I've never heard of any downside to Tetanus shots. They are pretty much regarded as mandatory safeguards, and if you ever get medical attention for any accidental cut, they will always ask if your Tetanus shots are up to date, which is defined as the last ten years. And prettry automatically give you one if you are vage about it, unless you can state a medical reason for not having one. Don't even think of going to a third world country without one.

You can discuss this with your doctor if you're nervous about it, but if you really want to get nervous about something, just read about the symptoms of tetanus.

You might want to bring this article to the attention of your doctor, and see if he still thinks your tetanus shot was the cause.

A subsequent analysis estimated the number of cases of GBS observed after a tetanus toxoid-containing vaccine to be less than the number caused by chance alone

Conclusion

To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of Guillain-Barré syndrome to be reported in the English literature after administration of tetanus toxoid, reduced diphtheria toxoid and acellular pertussis vaccine.

You need to talk to your pediatrician about it. He or she will be better able to address your concerns than random internet folks.
