I had a fall last night. Both feet are injured and my left knee got twisted. My right foot is purple, black and blue with red stripes across the toes and bruising underneath the toes. It hurts to walk and my knee issue makes it hard to get up from a chair.

I think you should get an x-ray. That bruising on the joint of your big toe along with the lighter-colored bump on the inside of your foot below the big toe looks like you might have broken some bones in your foot. They don't do much for broken toes but sometimes they do for broken feet.

If you've got a compelling reason not to go to the doctor, then rest, ice, elevation and ibuprofen is probably the way to go, along with a sturdy shoe when you have to walk, not something flexible like running shoes. But if at all possible, you should get it checked out. Sometimes foot injuries heal just fine on their own and other times they cause issues for years to come.

I did ice it and it didn't help much. Even now, 24 hours later, it is still throbbing.

Do you usually have a bump on the side of your foot like that? On the left just below the big toe? I know feet come in all shapes and sizes so I can't tell if that's a normal feature of your foot, but the way that it looks like a purple circle with a protruding lighter area in the center is what made me think that something might be broken there. The purple mark on the joint of your big toe looks like the bruising I've gotten when I've broken a bone.

I don't know if you're diabetic, but if you are, you should definitely have your foot looked at. Sometimes a broken bone in a diabetic's foot can cause some real problems later, especially if you have any nerve damage. Making sure it heals right can help prevent those problems.

If nothing is broken, they'll probably prescribe 800mg ibuprofen every 8 hours for a few weeks. If you do have broken bones then they may prescribe something stronger, especially if the pain is keeping you from being able to sleep.

As far as your knee hurting when you get up, don't sit on low things. If the couch hurts to get up from, put a pillow or cushion down before you sit to raise the height. Raise the height of your desk chair if you need to. The hardest thing to get up from with hurt legs is a regular-height toilet...if yours is the comfort height variety, be glad.

I am not diabetic. I have bunions on both feet. I am taking Aleve for the foot pain, muscle pain, and knee pain. I was just able to walk to the bathroom without too much pain. I can wiggle my toes, sort of. They are very stiff.

I think things are looking up.

You've done some bruising and it will take time for healing. That's how I see it. I wouldn't think there is a break but I say this from my own falls in life.

How would anyone here be able to give you a proper diagnosis from a photo?
You should have sought medical attention right after the fall or at the very least call your regular Physician the next business day, tell them you fell and ask them to work you in.
If you do not seek proper medical attention and do actually have broken bones that are left untreated it can and will cause more problems in the future.

You don't have an Urgent Care where you live? That's what they're for.
