Does anyone know if simply wearing a wrist band is enough to stop doctors or first responders from doing anything to you if you are found unconscious?
Lets say you were starving to death or you were succumbing to some illness or freezing to death and wanted to be left alone can you legally sue them if they stabilize you and then cut you loose again since they are in effect making you die twice or even three times.
I mean if you don't have food your not going to suddenly have money and a good job when they cut you loose from the hospital that they took you too against your will. Same goes with freezing to death the same conditions that put you in the hospital are still going to be there when they stabilize you and cut you loose.
Do people in the USA have a right to die of natural causes without being tortured by hospitals?
You could go to your docs and make yourself a DNR (do not resuscitate). That means if you start to croak, they can't touch you legally to attempt to revive you; no CPR.
I know a past patient who was a DNR and a caregiver of his called 911 and the EMTs came a blazing (as they are suppose to). The guy lived and was worse off then before. I don't know what happened in that case because it never went to court.
Once 911 is called all bets are off. The EMTs must act in accordance with the law until a doc tells them to stop cpr if you are found unresponsive and CPR is initiated. If you are found in rigor chances are they wouldn't start CPR (we can only hope; that's not a joke). It also depends on what state you live in. If you have a wristband that indicates you're a DNR and they revive you; I can see a civil suit but...were you trying to commit suicide? Are you mentally stable? etc...
Americans have the right to die without being forced to stay alive beyond all measure, but make it legal. If you have a living will don't make yourself a full code or even partial code. You can be very specific in this document. No tubes, no cpr, no IVs...I would put in "may use pain medication for comfort measures and suction + O2." plus no antibiotics. They are called comfort measures. Yet, even with a DNR, if you break a leg or something like that, it gets fixed.
Usually when someone attempts to commit suicide you end up in the psych ward on a 48/72 hour hold. So, we need to determine the problem and attempt to fix it. If you have multiple diseases processes and are just tired of living we can't let you kill yourself because that's God's job (over 80% of americans believe in some kind of God). If you're poor and destitute; join the club...so, what to do if you just have had it, aren't on hospice, and slip into a coma and are found...have an obvious DNR wristband on.
Many factors; different laws in each state, I would talk to your doctor for advice. If you have no band on. EMTs will initiate CPR if they think there's a chance of reviving you. I believe assisted suicide (death with dignity) is allowed in 4 states now, but you must meet certain criteria; WA, OR, CA, VT.

I live in Alaska, the environment here can very easily kill someone and simply stabilizing them and then cutting them loose into the same environment that almost just killed them seems like there would be some legal issues there. Sounds like even if you have a DNR there is not much you can do about first responders ...
I don't have a regular doctor so I will have to do a little research on the laws in my area.
From Hawaii the weather would never kill you but perhaps you could starve to death since from what I heard all the land is being gobbled up by filthy rich people and gated off.
I believe first responders do not have authority to honor a DNR. They're suppose to try and stabilize the patient, get them to the hospital and the doctor makes the legal judgement/decision to honor the DNR.
I was an EMT and you have to Honor a DNR. It's piece of paper drawn up by a doctor that let's you know Do not resuscitate. The paper has to be shown to the ambulance workers. If one cannot be produced I believe they have to follow protocol and perform CPR. This is what one looks like here in NY where I am from. https://www.health.ny.gov/forms/doh-3474.pdf
