we didn't either but before either of us have had even minor surgery, in the past 6 years or so, we have either been given a soap to use for a few days at least or told to purchase antibacterial soap and scrub the area near where the incision will be made. I think the one doctor who hasn't advised us to do this was the doctor that has done most of hubbies many surgeries.

I haven't used them for years, after I started reading about the ways they can be harmful. I make my own foam soap with cheap shampoo.

I recall reading years ago that antibacterial soaps had no more effect on killing possible pathogens than regular soaps-that what killed off bacteria was in the handwashing technique, ie, scrubbing the hands for at least 25 seconds, scrubbing under the fingernails, etc.

Add to that the very real possibility that such heavy exposure to antiseptics in those products may lead to increased resistance to both antiseptics and antibiotics in some bacteria, killing off normal commensal bacteria, doesn't seem the constant barage of products designed to sterilize our environment is really doing us much favor.

Our capitalistic world has to keep "thinking" up New Products for us to spend our money on. They never got my money for this stuff. Soap and water works and has for all my life.

I never knew this as I never paid attention to these products. Never felt right to me years ago.

Thing was, I was in the Midwest and the was a hue and cry over using them as most people had septic, the soap killed all "useful" germs and the others. This resulted in major....backups...

I used them a bit in the 90s, had the little bottle of hand sanitizer on my desk, but stopped pretty quickly.

Anyone know if you can still get Wet Wipes that are NON-antibacterial? I like to keep a few in the car and I can't seem to find them anymore - had to buy a pack of the antibacterial ones when I ran out.
