In September 2004 I got the infection Otitis Media in my left ear which my ENT said was the worst case he'd ever seen. Even with extra Vicodin I could still feel the pain. It felt like someone had taken a handful of hat pins and kept stabbing me in the ear with them. The left side of my face was so swollen that my ear stuck out at a 90-degree angle from my head, and when I put my hand near my ear I could feel the heat coming off of it. I took two days off of work because both the pain and the painkillers made me very unsteady on my feet.
It took almost six weeks for the pain to completely dissipate. I lost a bit of hearing in my left ear because of the infection.
Months later I was making sick jokes that there were parts of that September that I did not remember at all because I was so doped up, and that I could have murdered someone and never recalled it.
oh, man.... that DOES sound awful!! I got an ear infection subsequent to a cold a couple of years ago and had an immediate understanding of why babies constantly tug on their ears and are so inconsolable..... but nothing like what you endured!!
Kidney stone pain makes me vomit. That's my indicator that I'm feeling EXTREME pain. If I'm not vomiting from the pain and experiencing the symptoms of shock, it's not "extreme" pain (according to my own internal meter).
I had lithotripsy to break up a kidney stone, I felt fine when I went home from the hospital, but was in agony a few hours later when those fragments started passing.
I joke that I've either had 8 kidney stones...or 25, depending on how you're counting. I've had 8 kidney stone events, but the last one was a centimeter and got stuck in the ureter. I was hospitalized so they could put in a stent, and then a week later they did lithotripsy, and I passed 18 stone fragments. (I know because I meticulously collected them. There might have been more that I missed, but I collected 18 fragments.)
So...I've either passed 8 stones...or 25.
Kidney stones are awful. *she types, and drinks more water*
I had a very bad UTI about 15 years ago and the pains in my stomach were horrible!!!
