I got mine one week ago. Have you gotten a flu shot this year?
News, All Kids Must Get Flu Vaccine, Panel Says
WASHINGTON (Feb. 28) - All U.S. children aged from six months up to 18 should be immunized every year against influenza, a panel of federal vaccine advisers said on Wednesday.
The panel, which advises the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on vaccine matters, agreed unanimously at its regular meeting in Atlanta that the new recommendations should go into effect as soon as possible, but no later than the 2009-2010 flu season.
I didnt get one this year or last year. I have been taking some stuff I get at the health food store. Last year I didnt get the flu, this year I got the worst case of flu in my entire life...go figure.
we always get a flu shot and we have been getting our kids flu shots for quite some time. our oldest is 19 and in college and the youngest is 13. they both were always very active in sports and in the winter play basketball. that is the worst(maybe wrestling is worse) for spreading germs. everyone has remained healthy thus far.
I did get a flu shot last year but we lived in the city and were exposed daily to other people. Now we live way out in the sticks, didn't get a flu shot and so far we haven't had any problems. I did hear this years flu shots wern't working. Anyone else heard that?
Nope, I don't get any flu shots, never have and don't plan to ever either.
I bet the drug companies LOVE the new recommendation though... lots of $$$$, imagine how many more doses of flu shots they will sell...
I've gotten a flu shot every year for the last 15 except for one. That year I got the flu and developed complications that put me in the ER. YES, I got the flu shot as soon as they were available.
I note that the new recommendations are for next flu season, and are voluntary.
I get the flu shot every year, and have not had the flu since I was a child. I am also aware that several of the dominant strains this year were not included in this year's shot, but this happens some years. There are thousands of strains, and they constantly mutate.
I think the flu program is clearly a lifesaver, and well informed people will usually choose to get one. YMMV.
No, and I don't foresee getting one for myself or for my children in the future. In my opinion, injecting my healthy kids with known toxins does not outweigh the possible benefits of avoiding the flu (if they guessed the right strains, that is). If I had immunocompromised children or members of my household, then I might feel differently.
We do take extra vitamin C and zinc during cold and flu season, and wash our hands often.
