A Nevada hospital has had unsafe needle reusage going on since 2004...and up to 40,000 people could have been exposed to HIV or Hepititis because of it.
How horrible. You know this place is going down in some type of law suit.
I saw this on the Reno news this morning. What a mess. In this day and age I cannot believe any health care professional does not know the risk of reusing needles. The clinic is still open. The man in charge of the investigation at the health department says the clinic is still open because the immediate health threat has been taken care of and to his knowledge those involved are still working there. How scary is that?
This was a completely avoidable thing and it is unbelievable that they would even consider reusing those things. What do we have to do now, start insisting they bring in the needles sealed and open them in front of us? I would sue the pants off of them.. Absolutely disgusting that they would do such a thing!
I actually thought that was SOP - but I could be wrong. It couldn't hurt that is for sure.

That is NEVER SAFE...How can any health care worker REUSE any needle?????
I recall the needle being used ONCE, then put in the red sharps container and that was almost 15 years ago when I worked in a hospital. I am just staggered that someone would re-use one of these needles.
As long as I have been in the medical field, re-using needles was an absolute health hazard and was NEVER TO BE DONE...
That is what I cannot understand, its been common practice not to reuse needles for decades. Its not a new concept. I *hope* the people involved lose their licenses.

How many times have I heard people talking down about how people share needles who are doing drugs and only druggies could be dumb enough to share needles. Evidently NOT only drug addicts, some medical personel in Nevada as well.
Tattoo parlors will open their needles in front of you so you KNOW they are new.
