In my case, at age 62, my eye doc put me on Ocuvite 50+ 10 years ago when AMD was first detected in my left eye. About 8 small spots I can see when testing with an Amsler grid. Right eye was and is clear.
Since then there has been no increase in the spots. I get an eye exam every year now. I figure for the relatively low cost (about $10 for 50 pills OTC, 20 cents/day) its cheap insurance.
I would not want to stop, and have the AMD get worse.
Four or five years ago, a close friend of mine was diagnosed with beginning stages of macular degeneration. I suggested a supplement preparation called EyeAstin. He started taking it daily. Two years later the doctor said the MD hadn't gotten worse. Two years after that the doctor said there was no evidence of MD present. He had never had a patient who reversed the MD once it had started.
