I also have had it all my life. You must wash your hair far more frequently than twice a week while it's active. I wash mine every single day without fail.
A good coal tar shampoo works wonders. Something like Tegrin. Once it's under control, you can switch to another type shampoo until the next breakout, then go back to Tegrin for a while.

If you find coal tar shampoos are too harsh, you can try shampoos with jojoba oil or tea tree oil. I found jojoba shampoos too harsh, but tea tree oil and some daily herbal shampoos and conditioner combinations worked. Nature's Gate or Avalon Organics shampoos can be found in a Whole Foods or a Wegman's.

Thank you!
Definitely time to experiment. I'd like to get my hair back to the point where I can at least skip one day of washing
I buy Dermarest at Walmart, where it is half the price other places. It's for psoraisis
which I don't have but when I get scalp pain, I know this shampoo will help.

There's also 'Neutrogena T/Gel' coal tar shampoo. I buy mine from the local Dollar store. Just make sure that whatever you buy, it has at least 0.5% COAL TAR.
It might smell a bit, but it's all worth it. It probably will get you under control by the second week, and then you can just use it maybe twice a week. Just be sure that the pain and eczema/psoriasis/scabbiness is GONE from your scalp before stopping it. It'll most likely reoccur by next year, then just use the coal tar shampoo again for a while. I've been using a coal tar shampoo off and on for over 40 years.
