I few months ago I noticed a bump on my wrist, it worried me so I went to the doctor and he said it was a ganglion cyst. He told me I can have it surgically removed or I can leave it be, I haven't decided yet. After doing research, I heard about people hitting them with a heavy book and bursting them, hence the common name "Bible bump". Bursting it doesn't seem very healthy to me and I don't think I could do it anyway, it sounds painful. Have any of you had these removed, and was it worth it?

Yeah it's worth it. They stick a needle in and aspirate if possible. It can come back but mine hasn't. They are common I hear.

I saw someone do this on Funniest Home Videos. An Asian man had one on his wrist and had his friend do it. They decided to reconrd it on video and as he was explaining the guy suddenly hit it so he wouldn't anticipate it later. Poof...gone!

A friend of mine threatened to smack mine while I wasn't looking. I told him he might get smacked back too.

My son had one on his knee and over the years it frew to about the size of a large grape. Not long ago, he accidently bumped his knee and it burst. He said when it burst and that stuff spread, it hurt like HE** and he went to the ER. they had to go in and remove all the "gunk". I have a real small one on my leg almost at my ankle and am knocking around having it removed.

There are many types of cysts, and I don't think bible bashing is a good remedy for a ganglion cyst. I had a large one on a finger joint removed years ago ( they only occur at joints ) and am very happy I did.

For your info... Ganglion Cyst

Hubby had one on his wrist and it was getting bigger. The Doc said the same thing, don't need to remove it unless it was bothering him. It was getting to where it was impeding his wrist movement a little and he decided to have it removed. They cut his out and it healed fairly quickly with no issues. He is happy to have it gone.

I got one right after I had my son. I scheduled to have it removed because it was painful, but I also smacked my wrist against the door jam ( I was afraid of having the surgery) which made it vanish. Yay, no surgery for me !!!

Mine doesn't hurt, but occasionally I can feel the tendons in my hand kinda pop back and forth over the cyst, if that makes any sense.

My husband has one on the front of his leg, almost up by his knee. He has had it for years. It has never bothered him or been painful in anyway, so he has just left it alone. I can never get him to go to the doctor for anything. You know how men are with going to the doctor. Lol.
