I got mosquito bites where my socks are, which means either the mosquito punctured through the sock, or it bit me when I was indoors and not wearing any socks.
Do you think those things puncture through socks and other clothes? I often put repellant on my skin as well as socks. Only on my shins because that's where it always happens.
You'd think the little guys would puncture me through my bare skin which is inches away from my socks.
There are many different types of biting insects in addition to "mosquitoes". Some burrow down under constrictive clothing to avoid skin that has repellent on it. Skin that's covered by clothing tends to be warmer, and many species are attracted by body heat. Your socks may have rubbed the repellent off the skin too. Tiny ones often called "no see ems" can slip into your house through screens or when you open doors, then bite you later.
I've been getting 1-2 bites every day for the past few weeks, all on my shins or feet. There was a heat wave here in SoCal and I thought that had to do with it, but the heat wave ended a couple days ago. I still get 'em.
Thoughout my life I got mosquito bites on my arms or thighs but not lately. That means it's not mosquitos, or I don't know what. Once I had flea bites all over my calves but that's because I got rid of my cat. I sprayed my apt and it was over.
How can I tell from looking at the bites if it's mosquitos or not?
Have you found that Coleman repellent works? I've been using that. Sometimes it helps and sometimes I'm not sure. It says it's 40% DEET.
