Not about knees but about Stem Cells and Jack Nicklaus experience. He evidently got many injections in his back and article says going for shoulder. Golfers most likely have knee issues too.

I'm waiting for the days when our FDA puts their Stamp of Approval here so our insurance world will get involved and many can be saved from invasive surgeries.

I think the FDA is far from putting their stamp of approval on the whole stem cell process. There is a lot of research that still needs to take place. Stem cell shops are getting busted around the country because they are not operating under any controls and guidelines. I don't deny it works for some people but it is far from being effective enough to get the insurance companies to budge.

We don't know what is going on behind the scenes with the FDA.. Time will tell and I have time. It's taken a lot of years to pull damaging drugs off the shelves, so we shall see. I just posted Stem Cell info in the Retirement area and already got an interesting reply.

I got to thinking -- what does a TKR cost or PKR. So found a couple sites with costs and this one is only hospital. Then there is rehab, lost work (downtime), and whatever comes along. Now I understand the doctor who does PRP in my area charges $850 for PRP per site, that could be 8-10 or more jabs around the knee. Stem Cells sessions run about $1600 last time I checked his site.

These replacement surgeries cost our insurance world mega bucks. And then we're left with ??????

I have HSA and I have hit my max deductible. My operation won't cost me a dime and it is 95% effective. What is the point of having insurance if you can't use it? Insurance companies make money hand over fist so I am not worried about how much it costs the insurance world.

The other procedures are all out of pocket and are less than 50% effective if even that much. All of my physicians are against it.

Advantage, full hip replacement.

Are you not paying for that insurance? What is HSA? I would LOVE not to use insurance as that would mean I don't need the medical world and would stay out of hospitals and doc offices..I hope you hit that 95% number..

What are patients left with??

For the OVERWHELMING majority of patients what they "are left with" is a return to an active lifestyle, ability to walk again without pain, return of mobility, return of LIFE

Your estimate on the cost of stem cell treatments is significantly off the mark by the way

American clinics charge approximately $10,000 per treatment. Notably, many patients gets more than one of these non-FDA approved treatments and must pay each time of course.

Some clinics have reduced prices to the $7,000-$8,000 range. Interestingly, costs for treatments outside of the US are usually far higher than in the US, charging anywhere from $20,000 all the way up to $100,000. https://www.geneticsandsociety.org/a...ts-really-cost

Adipose, bone marrow, cord tissue and amniotic stem cell treatments can start anywhere from $5-10k per treatment.

And what are patients "left with" who opt for Stem Cells?

A very large bill that will not be covered by insurance with no evidence to support that it even works...

No my numbers are NOT off, this is what Dr. Darrow charges...he has a list of costs on his website. And even IF a person needs 3-4 visits of either type, it's still miles cheaper than surgery. Which we all pay for...and then the rehabs etc etc....and YES many have issues after these replacements, obviously you don't care to talk about that.

I was a little off on the stem cell charges, but close enough.

I am not paying a dime for my insurance. I am very lucky that I work for a company that provides me with incredible coverage. I have Aetna. HSA is a Health Savings Account which is one of three plans I had to choose from when the yearly elections come up. I put pre-tax money into an HSA account which I use to pay for all things medical up to my deductible which is $5,400 for my family and only $3,000 for me. I already hit the $3,000 mark so I now don't have any out of pocket costs and my family only has to pay 10% of costs. Once we hit $5,400 as family all costs will be covered. The main reason I chose HSA was because I don't have to get a referral from my PCP to see specialists. I can just pick one that is in network and schedule an appointment. I have been using an HSA account for four years now and it has actually saved us money. My wife has RA and Fybromyalgia which requires a lot of doctor visits and medication. There were more out of pocket costs with HMO or PPO compared to HSA. Any money that I don't use out of my HSA account rolls over to the next calendar year. It is essentially another savings account which I can invest in.

Oh, so all employer paid. I had that for many yrs of my life when I worked. I don't know your age, but I get the impression you are a younger hip receipent.. I was 72 and my medicare did me pretty good. I deal with Fibro, so I'm told, but never went to a doctor for it. I take a lot of supps for my other issues so no insurance there.
