Default Question about children's adult teeth coming in...

My son is 7. He lost his two front teeth back in December, and the adult teeth have not grown down at all yet! He's lost teeth on the bottom, and they've grown in within a few weeks of losing the baby teeth.

I woke up in a cold sweat this morning thinking that maybe he HAS no adult teeth in the front, but then realized that it was probably ridiculous... the baby teeth did get loose and fall out, and they did not have roots at all, so of course adult teeth must have pushed them down... right?

He's due for a cleaning next month (need to call and schedule that!), but in the meantime, has anyone else's child taken this long for their permanent teeth to come in after losing the baby teeth?

I actually had a couple of rear molars take almost a year before they came in after my baby teeth fell out. Still wouldn't hurt to have it checked at his appt next month.

That is not uncommon. If the adult teeth are right below the baby teeth or often even push out the baby teeth then they come up quick and can even be seen as soon as the baby tooth comes out. If they are higher up it can take awhile to come down. One of my son's had had an eye tooth that probably took a year to come all the way out and down.

I had twins that had baby teeth ONLY! The boy twin died at the age of 17 and he died with his baby teeth. When he was younger, the dentist X-rayed him and he did not have the permanent teeth in there.

The girl also kept her baby teeth into adulthood and went and got those luminers palced over her baby teeth. I'd say anyone was crazy that said that but it happened to MY own kids! The baby teeth never fell out

Calea is on a distinguished road
Try not to worry!! (easy for me to say, right?)

If he lost the two baby teeth, the odds are pretty good that his adult ones will be in soon. Your dentist will be able to x-ray to make sure.

I asked my husband (a dentist) and he said not to worry; that the dentist would know if there were no permanent teeth above the baby teeth and would have let you know earlier. Sometimes it just takes a while for the adult teeth to come in.
