My doctor's great on ordering tests, but not with discussing the results. My last visit, I asked if my blood work had come back. she said yes, it did. I asked her to go over the results---which is part of her job! She then said don't you use MyChart? Just review them there, I don't have time to go over each and every test. Whaaa........
Seems every time I see her I get a stack of test orders. Each test is another appointment, time out of my day, not to mention the co-pays. Then, they can't even be bothered going over them!I'm literally run ragged chasing after tests, tests, and more tests. For what reason? Because my insurance will pay for them, I suppose. Needless to say, I'm in the process of switching doctors, and the next doctor I will make sure understands I'm NOT there just to have my insurance milked. But then again, why am I there Who knows?
You guys actually get calls from DOCTORS? I can't remember the last time I talked to a doctor outside of their office or a hospital, face to face.
Our communication is with nurses and PAs. If tests results come back that need detail interpretation or a followup visit we get a call setting up an appointment.

Well I would hope someone calls if the test results cause a concern.
I assumed the doctor reading and interpreting the tests is part of what we pay for. We shouldn't be told to read and figure it out on our own
Well... that depends....
My doctors do not go over each and every test, if they are normal. We discuss the things that are not normal.

I think it's really practitioner specific. Many physicians still contact patients directly. My current OB/Gyn personally calls with all test results and gave me her cell number to return calls. On my first visit with her 2 years ago, she called me just to let me know that she had called in a prescription I had requested. I thought that was going a little above and beyond.
Oddly enough just got a call from the doctor's office to come in and review my latest results with the doctor. No phone discussion at all, just need to come in for a face to face.
I just had a Cologuard test (for colon cancer) and got the results through the online portal. Positive. It is not a great thing to find out first thing in the morning.
First off, if I was not too bright I might think positive was a good thing. I waited all day (I was out and about) and the office never called to discuss or set up a colonoscopy. I find it to be really cold. I know everything is automated now, they are very busy, but if you give someone a test for cancer and the result is POSITIVE I think a phone call is in order.
I am not too worried, out of 100 positive results, only about 5% are cancer, 50% are polyps, and 45% are nothing. My last colonoscopy 10 years ago was clean.
I am just ticked off at the impersonal treatment from the Dr.'s office. I will be calling tomorrow to give them a piece of my mind.

Looks like my mom was right which is awful and confirms why I never liked doctors.
The normal ranges for each and every aspect of a blood test and urine test is listed on the lab test report.
So one looks to see if each aspect of their blood test is in the normal range.
