My husband says that to me. He had a heart attack 4 years ago and went Code Blue 4 times. He blamed my cooking on his high cholesterole levels. My preference for food is stir fry and salads. I weight 98 lbs. and he weights 225 lbs.

Since his retirement, his sole pleasure in life is eating Fast Foods (lunch and snacks). When our kids heard that he was retiring, their comment was that Daddy was going to EAT his way through retirement. He says all the time that his PILLS are going to prevent another heart attack; regardless of what he eats.

I know he has psychological problems going back to childhood as far as eating. He told me that as a child, when his Dad was out of work, he had to fight his PARENTS for food. VERY WRONG with that. My Dad was also out work many times, but my parents always let ME have first gibes on the available food. Even when my husband himself was out of work and HE wanted "preference" to the available food over our children, I gave them MY food so they could eat. That is what any responsible parent would do.

I fully understand that in retirement my husband would have financial issues concerning food, but I think his problems go far deeper. Plus, he also has issues with his hear attack and cannot ignore that with medication.

I suppose what I am saying with this post is that Medications are not the final solution. Mental Health Issues need to be addressed as well. This is currently causing a lot of problems in our 43 year marriage.

I feel for you. Unfortunately he is not alone in his thinking. A large portion of the population is overweight with high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and high blood sugar.

And they take pills for high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and high blood sugar. When all three could probably be helped by a drastic change in eating habits.

Make sure his life insurance is up to date. Sounds like you will soon be joining me in widowhood, I'm sorry to say. Do you think it would help to have a talk with his doctor, the three of you?

Jo, VTsnowbird said it all. So So Many we can't change and they won't change. My mom tried to change my dad on her deathbed and he lived 5 yrs longer than her.

Men and Women are day and night, black and white. We try and try to heal them....but have to eventually let go. Very very tragic.

I remember way back when my dad was mid 80's and I had mom taking Pycnogenol and she was doing so good, I had him trying it and he took one and that was it, he never took another as he said it didn't help. Mind you ONE. We are all amazed that he lived to almost 96 as he sure didn't take care of himself. Lived for alcohol too,,,really didn't have much wrong with him over his lifetime and never any major pills.

They are doing it their way and we go along for the ride and watch them or get off the ride. My ex died about 5 yrs ago and his 2nd wife took care of him. YOU Hang In. jam

As far as our childhood, not many of us were born with silver spoons in our mouths but this is the 21st century and time to let go and make changes.
