Its in the first paragraph on page 44.
"If when you honestly want to...."

Page 44
"....if when drinking, you have little control over the amount you take, you are probably alcoholic. If that be the case, you may be suffering from an illness which only a spiritual experience will conquer."

That is a crock of crap. After 25 years of severe alcoholism I knew I had to stop. No spiritual experience, no meetings, no "birthdays," and I can't even tell you the exact date I took my last drink, but it has been over 20 years. I just stopped.

I have a friend who just stopped too without looking to a higher power. No AA, No rehab, he just quit. He is an exception as you are. As an Atheist I get your point. However for some people looking to something that they believe is a higher power that they can draw upon for strength is not a bad thing. If that so called higher power allows them to dry out and get healthy then I dont think it qualifies as crap.

By all means every individual should do whatever it takes to lead a sober life. If that means AA, fine! That is not what I meant by "crap." What is crap to me is the idea that you can't get sober without a program like AA or spiritual experience. To quote, with emphasis added, "an illness which ONLY a spiritual experience will conquer." "Only" is absolutely untrue.

My dad drank every day, not during day, but after dinner and evenings at his bar, he owned one. He never quit and lived into 90's...provided for his family and the persons he hurt most, were his family.

I supposed he was an alcoholic but who knows.

The real test, according to Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob, who wrote most of the Big Book, is to see if after the recommendation on page 44, is to leave alcohol COMPLETELY alone for ONE year.
Not just a few weekdays. Try it and see how much difficulty you have. I sure did and until a total psychic change happens, the terrible problem persists.
Your friends are waiting at your nearest AA Meeting 🙂

36. Now I go without drinking anything 2-3 nights per week. Drink a small amount 2-3 nights. And drink for a hard buzz 1 night

Whether seven nights a week, three nights a week, or one night a week, if you're still drinking for a "hard buzz" – you're playing games with yourself.
