I've been on Ambien for 3 years. It's now at the point I can't fall asleep without it. It's actually to the point I take MORE sleeping pills (i.e. Unisom) on top of Ambien because it's not enough to put me to sleep. Even with all of that, I still wake up in the middle of the night.

I am so extremely tired throughout the day, but I can't even fall asleep without taking the dang drug. I've expressed concern to my psych doctor about it, but she wants me to get over some major life stressors within the next month or so before switching up my meds. Um...I want it changed now.

I feel like a sleep study would be wasting my money. I had one a few years ago when fatigue was an issue, not insomnia, and nothing came back unusual. Also, I've tried Lyrica and it was like candy; it did nothing for me.

Can I get any advice?

Go back to your Doctor and tell her that you have made the decision to change your medication and she should abide by your decision or you will find someone else.

Start lowering the doses and see what happens. You need to ween yourself off of these sleeping pills. You realize you have a problem. Talk to medical professionals.

She's been saying the same thing for months now......

I may have major stress going on, but I can't be completely exhausted all day. What sucks is that psych doctors take forever to get an appointment in my area since there aren't many, so I'm limited on switching doctors. I just feel that this is a permanent feeling I mean, if I'm taking unisom with Ambien, I don't know how I can wean myself off....

I feel this is such negligence on doctors when they do BS like this. They know patients shouldn't be on drugs like this long-term, yet they keep them on it, and look what happens.

Your not taking any responsibility for what you put in your mouth?

I used Ambien for a while and then I quit because it gave me hallucinations. I now use only melatonin which is available OTC. Sometimes I have to augment the melatonin with a Benadryl.

Um, have you been on Ambien for 3 years and successfully weaned yourself off?
