I've been taking a statin for years and my memory is fine. Just throwing that out there.

I'm in my mid 40's and have taken a statin for about 5 years now. I take it because my cardiologist says I should and I was born with a congenital heart defect. It's been proven that my high cholesterol is not due to my diet but hereditary. I was not happy about taking a statin, but I have had no side effects. If I didn't have an issue with my heart I probably would try as much as I could to avoid taking it as with any medicine, but in my case I do believe it's the best thing to keep me healthy.

On a side not, dementia runs in woman on my DH's side of the family. Not one of them ever took statins.

I don't doubt a single word of what you've posted and what I've read about the big bucks involved in doctors being statin-pushers. Not a word.

I happen to agree with this. One almost did me in because she did the classic stereotype and thought I was being a baby or whatever (body language was unbelievable). 3 weeks later I was having emergency surgery because she didn't believe a word I said. If they can't leave their baggage at home they have no business being a DR. My surgeon kicked her fanny when I told him about my experience with her.

I've had 2 more female DRs since and I'm not anymore impressed. No more.

Sure, but what statins are going to eliminate cholesterol, or even push it down to unnatural levels?

I suppose somewhere out there there might be an individual or a handful who did have this happen, there seems to at least miniscule exceptions for every rule in every book. But I have never heard of either of these reactions.

It causes short-term memory loss in many patients. The drug companies claim that it is not dementia because the side-effect disappears once the statin use is stopped. It is essentially being classified as temporary dementia like a lot of other causes, such as urinary tract infections, where the brain function is stressed.

There is a caveat though with temporary dementia. Some reports say that accumulated damage to the brain from UTIs, general anesthesia, and other causes could lead to permanent dementia.

Then whats the point of the topic? if not to dissuade people from taking those evil statin drugs that evidently only serve to pad the bank accounts of big pharma.
