I am with you on the correct terminology. The flu is no joke. Norovirus, food poisoning, and gastroenteritis are unpleasant but they are not as bad or as dangerous as the flu.

I had the flu this past January and was bedridden for 10 days. It did not start with vomiting of diarrhea. It started with me feeling like a truck just hit me. Every single muscle in my body ached and I had a fever and chills. It was pure misery.

Yes, they are clearly different...I don't know that the flu is more dangerous. Food poisoning, etc. when accompanied by lots of "fluid" losses can be quite dangerous, beyond the pain of constant vomiting. But hey, this isn't a competition, right?

Yes food poisoning can be dangerous. The flu kills between 12 thousand and 49 thousand people every year and this last season has seen some of the highest death rates. Food poising deaths come in at about 5000 per year. So both are clearly dangerous. Its the contagion factor influenza has that makes it more dangerous.

that is EXACTLY how it was for me the one time I had the real influenza flu..... I was so miserable, my hair hurt..... and it came on SO FAST..... One minute I was just fine, the next minute I felt like I was dying......

Right, it's caused by nasty bacteria that get ingested.

I agree that there is no such thing as stomach flu but disagree that the flu is more dangerous then food poisoning and norovirus.

I went to urgent care I do have impetigo. I am on Valtrex and amoxicillin plus Mupirocin ointment. I took the horse pills already. I have had cold sores before but never this bad where it's turned into impetigo. I made it there just before they closed early. As of right now we have a snow storm and about 5 inches of snow with more coming.

The cold sores were a perfect "wound" for the bacterial infection.

I get frequent cold sores, so I am surprised I haven't had this happen. I've never even thought of it! I do think it's pretty rare, however. Hope you feel better and stay safe (with the storm) !

There are far more deaths from flu. That is a good indicator of dangerousness.
