I’m not complaining of course. I lost 20 lbs after the result and started on 10 mg of statins 3 days a week. My LDL was 211 which is VERY high and came down to 121 (still a bit high) my HDL stayed the same though at 48. My triglycerides were always normal though. I was surprised my cholesterol was so high to begin with considering I exercised at least 30 minutes a day an didn’t eat terrible. Could one of the blood tests be and error?
Cholesterol is kind of like blood pressure in that it varies a bit. You can take a cholesterol test today and get a different number if you take another one tomorrow. That said, it still provides a good snapshot.
You say that you "didn't eat terrible," but if you lost 20 pounds in 2 months, then you weren't eating all that great before. I personally think that changing your diet is a much better option than statins, if you can do that. I think statins kind of give people a false sense of, "I can eat whatever I want, and my cholesterol is still OK." Well, that's not good for anyone.
