Well, I got the EMG referenced in the thread linked below, and was quite positively impressed:

A Rant about "Unpleasant" Procedures

I think I should begin by explaining that I underwent a spinal fusion at he age of 10 back in 1960; this involved eight weeks confinement in a head-to-knees body cast, and the surgery was sprung as a complete surprise 30 minutes before the procedure. My mother, though a loving parent, was the "smothering" type who never outgrew thinking of me as a child, and my father, by far the dominant half of the partnership, concurred.

But this time around, things went smoothly. Both o the techs explained things in full, and the discomfort, needles included, was minimal. I'm told that the ability to tolerate the procedure varies from one individual to another, and I apparently "lucked out". Nearly sixty years of technological progress might have helped as well, I'm sure. But at any rate I was sure to express my appreciation to both, and will make certain that I can provide some positive feedback.

Not sure I could say the same about those who tend to over-sugar-coat the facts, however.
