Yes but with a grain of salt. As others said they can be a bit biased but if you read ten reviews that all say the same...that’s a huge sign.

While I agree, sometimes they are spot on. I figured what you said above for my husband's surgeon, and I was wrong, the guy was a flat out jerk

I deal with doctors all the time (my own), and have had multiple surgeries. My doctors and other health care practitioners have comment at various times that I am a great patient.

THIS guy interrupted our reasonable, and few questions with "This ain't my first rodeo" (said rudely and cutting us off), when I had to remind it was OUR first rodeo. The surgery didn't work, leaving my husbands bone still sticking up the top of his shoulder under the skin, and his comment was "well I guess your the 5%" nothing we can do.

Went to a new surgeon who was able to fix it, and on the medical records it was noted the previous surgeon had botched it.

The guy was donkey, and I wish I had listened to the reviews.

I needed a new Endocrinologist and I read reviews, there are not too many to begin with here so it was limited.
I read that this doctor was good but had long waits in the office.
I went to her and found that that was completely true. Normal wait to be seen one to two hours after apt. time.

BUT, she is very complete, she takes the time to go over everything with you.

Yes, I absolutely read reviews for everything that has any.

This so called "Dr's" shameful behavior sounds like he has been hitting the drug company samples a little too hard there. Or something more powerful. Out of curiosity see if he shows up on the Better Business website in a negative way. And I wonder if he as been reported to any medical board. If there were only a couple in a bunch of reviews that were terrible it may not be bad. But you said there were more. Sounds truly awful. I'd skip over this guy in a hurry.

there were more reviews similar to the ones I posted And honestly seeing as I have an HMO I'm already going to have to drive 2 hours to this guy. However my personality just won't allow me to restrain myself if someone spoke to me the way the reviews indicate this doc does.
If he does turn out to be what is described, my next option is to drive 3 hours in a different direction. In which case my PCP has to have her office personnel send in a referral. The doctor then will review my records when he finds the time, then decide whether he will take me on as a patient; in which case my PCP must have her personnel get an insurance referral ok'd.

This is all a bunch of bull****, IMHO because it wasn't always so difficult and doesn't have to be. In this new guys case it took him 5 weeks to decide he would take me as a patient.

God Bless us one and all because it is getting crazier all the time.

Many doctors are simply overwhelmed, overworked and probably would like to quit. Only if you have the money to hire a concierge doc (you pay out of pocket up front) will you be able to get the treatment and courtesy you desire. Otherwise, it's just a crapshoot. You have to take whatever is available.

I have not problem exchanging bed side manner for competence. Do I want a doctor who wants to quit? heck no.

Your choices are as your insurance or finances allow.

I read reviews on Yelp and ratemds.com. I have written both negative and positive reviews and would trust nothing the medical association tells you since it's a doctors' group and they lie like rugs for each other. It's the main reason bad doctors are still practicing. Aside from which, I'm more apt to trust another patient's experiences.

How does the one 3 hrs drive in the other direction look, review wise? It would be worth your sanity, and self respect. Forget that other guy. If I had wanted that kind of abuse I would have stayed married.
