My daughter asked me to post this question here.

For the past several months, her breast size has been fluctuating. I know this can be common during certain cycles of the month, but she had a total hysterectomy including her ovaries several years ago, and this problem has just started occurring recently.

Her doctors don't seem to have any answers for her, despite mammograms and ultrasounds. She cannot have an MRI due to having lots of metal hardware and shrapnel from a serious car accident 2 years ago.

Has anyone had any experience with this? And if so, what, if anything, have you found out about it?

Is your daughter quite petite? I have a friend who is about 5'2" and weighted barely 100 pounds. If she gained weight, even a pound or two, it would always show up in her breasts first and make her bras very tight. In fact, even if she would have a salty meal or two, she would retain water and it would mostly show up in her breasts.

After she gained about ten pounds (at 110 she was still pretty skinny in her waist and hips) but gained two cup sizes from a 34 B to a 34 D (or something like that).

Just a possible idea.

If she's seen the doctors and they aren't worried, maybe it's nothing to worry about. Unless your gut tells you it's something to worry about. Is she still maturing? You didn't say how young she is.

She is 35 and is overweight (like her mama.) She is very active and walks every day but some of the medications she takes cause weight gain. She has been on these meds for a long time, so I don't think they are causing the problem. Her breasts are large to begin with.

The doctors do have some concerns about her breasts because of cysts, some dimpling and a shadowy area, which is why they wanted the special MRI.

Her symptoms (dimpling on the breast, shadowing area) along with being unable to have an MRI concern me. Mammograms and ultrasounds just don't reveal some problems, including tumors, the way an MRI does. I speak from personal experience of breast cancer here.

Has she seen a breast specialist? Since she can't have an MRI, exploratory surgery with a possible biopsy may be in order.
