Anyone else has this problem???

Mine is from drinking wine for over 40 + years, is a chronic illness and I cannot afford Lyrica so I am taking Gabapentin...anyone else is experiencing this chronic illness?? maybe the wine makers should do as the cigarrett makers did, putting what can drinking cause to your health.

I am sorry this has happened.

You're right: Alcoholic neuropathy is one of the lesser-known effects of long-term heavy alcohol consumption. My father had it and one day he tried to go up a ladder to fix something on the roof...

While we're making up warning labels to put on wine bottles, we should make one for chronic pancreatitis too.

How much wine did you drink? A glass a day? 2 glasses? A bottle?

I have peripheral neuropathy that started last year. It is like an electrical charge running through my feet. I am on Elavil and I now have the correct dosage so my pain is fairly well managed. I do get occasional breakthrough pain.
I cant take gabapetin - I tried. The side effects are way too severe for me. I did Lyrica for a week and I swelled up like a puffer fish.
I do drink wine but that is not the cause of mine. Mine is from bone spurs in my spine effecting my neural pathway.

I empathize with you. Last year I was so depressed because the pain was non stop almost unbearable.

I drank about 1 bottle a day I guess in reality I drank 8 to 12 small bottle of wines per day, that could even be more than 1 bottle actually..my neuropathy of hands and feet are from drinking..100% the specialist told me, is chonic but I find that Gapentin 300 mg x 3 a day is not doing a thing for me, was wondering if anyone new anything new I am open to trying anything that will make my feet and hands feel a little better..Thank you for telling me what you are taking, I will put it on my list to try!!! Thank you for your imput!!!!

Talk to your doctor. Gabapentin dosages can be quite a bit higher than 900 mg/day, I understand. But don't increase your dosage without talking to your doctor first.

I have a hereditary form of PN............damaged/degenerating nerves all over my body. Regularly eating fatty-fish seems to help me the most with my nerve-pain. A close second is taking about a gram of Vitamin-C a day.

Would a warning label have stopped you?
Wine is safe when not abused, except for the allergic ones.
It would be like putting warning labels on milk.

Isn't this the truth.

If you didn't realize that 8-12 small bottles of wine (that's 8-12 drinks) a day was bad for you, no warning label in the world would have helped.

That's like saying, "I didn't realize 8-12 donuts a day was bad and now I have diabetes. They should really put warnings on donut boxes."
