A few stats from the CDC: in the US, each yr ~ 1 in every 8000 meals results in "food poisoning"- the overwhelming majority are due to Staph toxin in improperly kept/prepared left-overs.

~ one out of every 100 million meals results in death from food borne illness. ..and most of the deaths occur in those very young, very old or with some per-existing, debilitating illness.

=some people take "cleansings" on purpose, you know (?why) and they do OK. The OP is probably pretty safe.

This is why I always say WELL DONE PLEASE (because they usually undercook it by 1 level compared to what you ask).

I don't feel like worrying. I rather get kicked in the balls once than go through food poisoning for a week. It is literally gut wrenching. Think a Silverback Gorilla Grade hangover multiplied by 10x.

It is something that literally shortens your lifespan because you are puking and sh*** your innards everywhere. Your stomach is hyper acidic and burns away some of the lining from having constant hydrochloric acid and not being able to hold down water. The primary reason for hospitalization is dehydration that cannot be resolved except by IV fluids since the digestive system is a wreck.

WELL

DONE.

But it certainly wasn't the last major problem for e coli. Scroll down to the bottom for a list of e coli outbreaks since then:

But if I'm going somewhere to pay $10 or more for a burger then put the warning on the menu but I think you should at least be able to get a medium rare burger. If you are willing to take the risk then why should you only be able to eat one at home that you make for yourself?
Because everyone says they're willing to take the risk but in the end when they get sick, everybody sues.

I like my steaks rare...just lop off his ears and wipe his butt!
I've never gotten sick eating rare beef.

YET!

I eat my steaks medium rare, but hamburgers are medium well to well. It's not worth getting sick.

I know, we all ate raw hamburger as kids, but with today's meat packing conditions and over use of antibiotics, NO MORE!
