What bothers me are sandwich places where the employee (wearing gloves) makes your sandwich, then walks to the cash register, takes your money, gives you change, then goes back to start another sandwich. The gloves are never changed.
Right. Gloves do not comfort me at all regarding cleanliness. They can get them germy as easily as their bare hands.
I do love utensils! I'd much rather see my food handled with those. I kind of freak out if tongs are used on different things. nay, nay. They should each have their own.

The best combination is where the staff prepares your food right in front of you. You can see that the area is clean, whether the employees practice good hygiene, whether or not they use disposable gloves and if they do so properly. Then you co not have to guess.

To me no amount of gloves replace utensils. Just do not touch my food with your hands in any form, please. Even at low-brow Waffle House, where you can see everything they do, their hands are gloved but they also take the meat out with only the raw meat utensil, and touch it only with other utensil that have not touched raw meat or anything else while cooking, transferring to the plate.
I grind my teeth when I see a meat patty turned with a utensil that then touches my hasbrowns, lol. I wonder why on earth I chose to order when that cook is there, as the other NEVER does that. I have to use invisible duct tape not to go NO! (or to ask that my food be made by the more fastidious cook).
I used to eat at a particular place that had one booth that you could see into the kitchen. One day I was in that booth and happened to look into the kitchen in time to see the cook, reach under his pants to scratch his behind and then pick up my burger to place on the grill.
Not to get all logical, but you do realize any contamination would have been eradicated by the heat on the grill....??
Why would bare hands bother me? I don't want to be a "bubble boy" who lives unexposed to even the normal everyday germs that are constantly around us.
Come on now, we live in the real world, lets expose ourselves to germs just a little bit. Most people's hands are reasonably clean when they wash food.
If they go take a dump in the bathroom then I expect them to use soap and water afterwards, but little things like touching the coutertop (which should be reasonably clean anyway) or the appliances and kitchen utensils....nah, all completely normal.
We are Sicilian and my wife uses gloves so she doesn't mess up her manicure. She's a great cook, no restaurant food can compare to her Italian cooking. Single use gloves are sanitary and convenient, like sandwich bags.

Oh, glad that isn't a concern of mine. I do my own nails.
So many are just overly paranoid today. Never thought of it. The sushi place I go to don't use gloves.
When I think of all the years I've been eating in and out and never worried about gloves, good grief.
You mean like you with your paranoia about 'big pharma' making money from the products they sell and insisting that they really just want to keep everybody sick? Amazing. Such inconsistency calls rationality into question.
I have worked in restaurants, I am not particularly concerned with people wearing gloves when they prepare food. I'm much more concerned about waitstaff being visibly ill and handling my food *after* it has been cooked.
I hate it when a waiter/waitress brings me a drink and places it on the table by holding the rim with his/her fingertips, instead of gripping the side of the glass. Then again, I don't use straws like 90% of the population, so perhaps I should start.
