When you're sick you may feel that certain body parts are more trouble than they're worth. And in some cases, you'd be right.

Hmm..some of these I might be able to agree with (tailbone for example) but others no way do I agree. Appendix, tonsils, adenoids? These are all important organs in Chinese medicine and I believe that sadly Western doctors figure anything they can't work out is useless. I think it will be found that they do indeed have important functions, just as the belief is in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine). It's a shame Western medicine deems things "useless". I think the human body is an amazing machine and just b/c we don't currently see a use for some things does not mean there isn't one. We still have a lot to learn!

People live without appendix, tonsils, and adenoids, so, yes, i'd consider them useless as well.

I've struggled with my sinuses all my life. I sure wish I could live without them. I have actually fantasized about sticking the crevice tool from my Rainbow vacuum cleaner up my nose but I'm affraid it would suck out my brain.

I totally agree. We live in a society where you fix things with cutting them out or medicating yourself, instead of getting to the root of the problem.

I had gall bladder surgery last year because I kept vomiting up everything I ate, and they found alot of gallstones in my gallbladder. So they took it out. Did it help? No - I still have stomach issues. But according to my doctor, the gallbladder is just there to store extra bile. You don't "need" it.

Seems like doctors just fix symptoms of a larger problem...and hey, if you have to cut out a tonsil or gallbladder or adenoid...so be it.

Nothing is useless. We were created with these parts for a reason. Those articles are used to keep doctors in business by getting them commissions for each bodypart they cut.

It's a reserve store of good germs to 'reboot' your digestive system in case another bug wipes out the germs necessary for human survival.

The function of the appendix seems related to the massive amount of bacteria populating the human digestive system, according to the study in the Journal of Theoretical Biology. There are more bacteria than human cells in the typical body. Most are good and help digest food.

But sometimes the flora of bacteria in the intestines die or are purged. Diseases such as cholera or amoebic dysentery would clear the gut of useful bacteria. The appendix's job is to reboot the digestive system in that case.
