Just passing this along. I fortunately do not take this.

Blood pressure medication recalled because it gives you cancer instead

The title to the first link is very misleading. It is not the blood pressure medication that is the problem. There is no evidence that valsartan causes cancer. The NMDA is a contaminant found in some batches of material from one Chinese supplier.

You can be exposed to NMDA from meat (cured or smoked), milk, and drinking water, too, and the body makes such compounds.

Anyone taking one of the brands that is affected can be switched to one that is not.

I started a thread on this a few weeks ago when the recall was announced.

Valsartan Recall

Today I'll be sending off my remaining supply of Valsartan back to them for refund.

So, was the title of your post actually a click bait headline? It was quite misleading.

My new doctor changed my Benicar HCT 40/25 to 40/12.5 saying that the one I was on was cancer causing.

The medication was found to contain a contaminant which is a potential carcinogen. The active drug does not cause cancer.

If you eat bacon or cured or grilled meats you will be exposed to the same potential carcinogen. The risk is very low. The contaminant just should not be there.

I did not make up the title, I'm only repeating it. It caught MY attention which is why I'm passing it along.

I don't take the medication and I didn't post to start a debate. Not EVERYTHING has to be a debate, does it?

On C-D, there are a lot of anti-drug, anti-doctor, anti-modern medicine posters, and the way your post was titled seemed to be along that line. Rather than implying that "blood pressure medication causes cancer!", the title could have simply stated that a contaminant was found in a blood pressure medication, and the med was recalled.

Click bait titles are meant to catch your attention, and they are very often misleading.

Benicar is an altogether different drug in the ARB group and was not part of the recall, so the change you refer to would make no difference in cancer risk. To my knowledge, there is no such risk involved with any Benicar combo.
