So what suggestions do you have for those afflicted with frequent urination at night when you're trying to sleep? From what I'm reading, it seems the body produces urine whether you drink water or not. They suggest stop drinking by 4 p.m. If you don't drink water then the urine can get more concentrated, but the body still produces it. I have to get up several times in the night to urinate and it ruins my sleep.

I just tell myself I will not really wake up.

It seems to work. I sleepwalk to the bathroom and back to bed one or two times, total.

Not a problem, at all.

Coffee does it for me. Also my new arid location has me drinking nearly a GL of water a day. Hoping to taper that but I need to give up that single cup of coffee before I complain too much about it. I have tea 1st thing then coffee when I get to work.

I have gotten used to it as I've aged. Don't like it but deal with it, plus when I do get up I get to move my stiff body. So there are good sides to it, I guess. Aging is not for sissies. I get good sleep for the most part as I use my sleep combo I've talked about in Alt Med here.

I'm 66 and I very rarely have to get up to urinate anymore. About five or six years ago I was getting up two or three times a night. I kept hearing ads for a product called Super Beta Prostate on the radio. They ran for a long time even after the weight loss snake oil pill ads disappeared. I decided to give it a try just because they advertised for so long. Within a week I noticed some improvement and before long I was only getting up once. Within a month I wasn't getting up at all. I took the pills for about two years and then decided to stop to see what might happen. It's been at least two years now since I took it, and I still don't get up to pee until I wake up in the morning. I don't think it's any kind of placebo effect because I ordered the stuff convinced it wouldn't work. I just looked them up before posting this and it is available now at places like Walmart, cvs etc.

I discussed this problem with my urologist. He said that fluids you drink cycle through in 3 to 4 hours. The amount of liquids you drink during the day and/or morning caffeine consumption have no effect on nocturnal urination. Alcohol consumption in the evening does exacerbate the problem.

You need to rule out any health issues (UTIs) or medication side effects. Getting up several times per night is not normal for a woman.

Getting up at night isn't as bad as a UTI. Too many older people limit fluids too much and end up hospitalized with a bad UTI. I leave a night light on in the bathroom so I can get up and go back to bed without really waking up.

I was told by a dr that getting up once to pee is normal, but more often is a problem you should look into. I drink way more water than I want to because I live in a humid area and sweat like they were giving a prize for it. Then I drink ONE drink after dinner and I never wake up at night.
